86 Wagovan Intake
Hi there, just purchased an 86 Honda Civic Wagovan, 5speed 1.5L carburated the other day, I"m completely new to Honda's and completely new to carburators. I'm doing some maintenance on it, and the airfilter is so dirty, so I figure while I"m replacing it, I might as well look around for a cool upgrade, the stock intake is super quiet too. I want something exposed. But can I just change the filter, or do I have to change the whole carb too, because I don't wanna change the carb. Thanks for the help!
What I have right now is the stock setup, with the round fram one inside
Looks kinda like this:
But what I WANT is something like this!
Exposed
Or this
Or even this
Or even a cone filter sitting straight on top of the carb, pointing upwards
(can't find a pic)

Re: 86 Wagovan Intake
i realize that an exposed air filter looks cool but it is gonna hurt your performance because your gonna be sucking in really hot air, i dont know if you've driven yours for awhile then popped the hood, underhood temps on these cars are high because there isnt a whole lot of room for it to dissapate

Do this:

Cut the original housing to expose the stock filter. And the noise = *drool* haha. I didnt notice any noticeable performance gain/loses so I don't care :p
