'84, 1300 Civic w/ high idle
Ok, I picked up this car a couple days ago, and it ran great, but now it has a high idle. I don't have a tach, so I'm guessing it's at 1500 rpms or more. I'm not familiar with these cvcc engines. Does anyone know where I should start? I've already tried adjusting the idle screw and that's not the problem. The car runs great, except for the high idle. I've bought a carb for one of these engines before, and I think I paid 350 bucks and it was shipped from back east somewhere. I don't want to do that again! Any help would be appreciated, THANKS!

Stuck on the high idle cam? Not sure about the 84 but the 83 has a vacuum diaphragm unloader. No vacuum, no unload, and high idle.
May also have a vacuum leak. That car probably of vacuum lines that can and will leak.

Where is the vacuum diaphragm unloader? I'm not familiar with the names of carb parts. Can you be more specific so I know what to look for? Thanks
I wish my chiltons had better diagrams. lol

The Chilton's manual is not good. Go to amazon.com or half price booksand get a Haynes manual. Much better.
There are some vacuum thermo valves thermostat housing on the 83 that regulate the idle. If they get a leak or quit working there is no telling what the idle will do.
I checked the parts list on the 84 model and the choke is electrically operated. If it lost power it is possible that you may never get the car to idle right. Maybe check the fuse for the choke? May be a long shot.
I can't really guide you any more on this as the 84 may be way different than the 83 we have.
