Are you doing it yourself? If so, you can probably get new gaskets for $100 or so?

If you're having it done, it all depends on the mechanics rate, I'd guess arond $350-$500?

Also depends if the head needs work (hopefully it's not warped).

umm well its spitting white smoke so im guessin the gasket gone bad. *twice already. and im not good with the timing belt so i'll probably let someone work on it. is $350 a good deal?

$350 is not bad at all if that comes with a guarantee. As in, hopefully the mechanic will go so far as to mill the head if it's warped, and check for cracks. I've done a few head gaskets and here's a DIY price list:

FelPro head gasket: $35
Intake / Exhaust gasket: $30
Milling / Check for Cracks: $80

Just undo the intake and exhaust manifolds, pull the distributor, loosen the timing belt and unbolt the head. It can be done in a few hours if you've done it before, and I'd take the opportunity to install a new timing belt and water pump. Also, make sure if you've got any water in your oil to drain it right away!!!

I just did my 83 Civic...the gasket was 35, plus intake manifold gasket which was 25, other gaskets and such were 25, and milling the head and removing a busted bolt were 35 dollars. I bought a Haynes and did it myself and have never done one before, really easy and straight forward, if you do it yourself (which I recommend) label every single hose and nipple with painters tape and numbers that correspond.
I didnt have my head vacuum or pressure tested either though...
