So I'm taking delivery of my 76 cvcc civic in about a week. The question I have is... How hard is it to convert back to right hand drive? I know there's still a lever for the brakes on the right hand side under the dash and that all of the cvcc's and 600's came from Japan right hand. What I have seen it looks like everything bolts to one side or the other.

Anyone that has one could you tell me more please...

Where are you getting it from and do you mean convert it back to left hand drive? To be honest If your getting a 76 cvcc and its a right hand drive it be one RARE gem.

The 76 model came from japan rhd and was converted to left by the dealer. some of the stuff is left from the right hand like the brake lever hook up.

I'm gonna convert it back, I just wanted to know a little more to do so.

And yes there bad *** right hand drive. one of my buddies has a N600 rhd all original.

Sorry you are mistaken --> ALL 73-79 LHD Civics have what you are looking at. The 1st gen civic was designed as a RHD car, so even the LHD models share a few parts with their brothers. That usually gets the Noobs all excited but its like having only 10% of a puzzle, the rest takes work and alot of welding and cutting.
There are items you have to cut out and weld to do a RHD conversion!
Cowl panel is a big one. Dash, sheet metal, brake brackets, steering support( this one is a cut and weld item too), and rack are the basics
Mathew from Lotus in NZ can get you the metal and parts you need to do the conversion. Its a big project..... and yes Shipping will be big $$$$

^^^ That sounds about right if you ask me. RHD is ghey anyways in the USA, how are you supposed to see around cars to pass on a two lane road? It's not like the VW Beetle with the symmetrical firewall and dashboard. I believe the brake booster was kept on the side it was designed on for clearance for the intake manifold and other engine things that might get in the way. That was probably an easier solution than re-engineering the tiny engine bay... Besides that if they were converted at the dealer, there would be a few that people bought that weren't converted, and there aren't many, if any RHD 1g Civics in North America... The numbers don't really add up. I'd bet the US DOT didn't allow any RHD cars to even reach the dealerships.

i might be able to help you out soon, i do all sorts of RHD conversions i just finished and ek4, i have done many ef8 anf ef9's i also might be doing and nsx and perhaps a subaru soon. i just picked up a 77 cvcc i will get a rhd clip thought my sources and let you know soon enough. all RHD conversions do require welding and plenty of cutting if this is your first one you are actually doing one of the easiest ones out there. no matter how you do it make sure everything is done Right you cannot take shortcuts. I do solid welds inside and out "No tack welding", and leave key elements that effect the frame untouched. i also get them registered legally as RHD when i am done.

It's always the stuff i never took pictures of i wish I had, I had one of those, the booster was on the wrong side as well as the steering box, it had a chain going under the dash for the steering, and it had a rod with pillow blocks running under the dash to operate the brake booster when you pushed the brake pedal. kind of like a bell crank setup. I'm trying to remember what model that was, it was the one that looked like a hatch but the bottom half opened like a little trunk. mid seventies I know that.

I have to ask - whats the point of converting to rhd if you're in a lhd country?
