Default Upgrading subs.....are they really worth it?

im currenting running 2 Kicker Solobarics 12" L5's im planning on upgrading upto L7's or some JL w6's. the amp im using is a kicker 800.2. since my amp is not giving them the full potential would my L5's sound exactly the same as L7's since i dont have the power. also would the w6's sound quality be extremely better enough to upgrade thanx in advance

btw-my setup is not bridged.

If you want more sq over the l5's get a demo of the w6's and see what you think. Your answer depends on what your ears tell you. I think with 400 watts per sub the L5's will be louder than the l7's. The l7's may have better sq though.

If you change subs more than underwear, like I used to, then try the w6's

if you upgrade from 5's to 7's you can use the same box...just some food for thought.

yea, but i think i was gonna sell the speakers with the box so that doesn't really matter.
also - my cousin has an L5 with the orginal kicker ported box with a JL 500 and his sounds pretty similar to mine. his SQ sounds like a million times better. is it because i have an kicker amp or my box is a normal 3/4 mdf box sealed or both?

THe only difference between the L5 and the L7 is the basket being stamped steel instead of cast aluminum. It's because of this reason they bumped the power handling, itherwise the subs are the same.

Looking at the specs side by side, I would just by a new sub.

They are very close in specs. You get less than 1mm additional xmax. Vas is slightly lower on the l7, meaning it's suspension is a little stiffer. I don't think it is worth the upgrade.
