Default Sub/Amp Recommendations?

I currently have a JL Audio 1/1000, and 2 JL Audio w6v2's that I'll be selling here shortly, and I'm looking to upgrade. I have a 1970 Impala with a fairly large trunk space that I'll be lookin to fill, my budget is around $4-5000, I dont have too much knowledge in Car Audio, and I've done a few hours of research on the internet, but havent been able to find a conclusion. I'm hopin that someone here would be able to point me in the right direction as far as sound quality goes. I've thought about a few JL Audio 1/1000's with some JL Audio 13.5 w7's, some people say that JL is over-rated and they arent worth the money, just wondering if any other known name brands would be a better choice. thanks

The amp doesn't matter in my opinion just as long as it's American-made, you can expect great results.

^^^^ i like this guys style.. I've always though of IDmax's as the dr. jekle/mr. hyde woofer, ha. zapco - good luck getting one of those..

oh and amp doesn't matter as long as american made? i don't necessarily agree with that, because i have seen some low quality american stuff too, very low.. you can go by this "theory" if you don't mind replacing amps constantly, but do some research, read some reviews, see what people's experience is and go with that, there are alot of really nice amps out there, but you can't always just throw amps around without having subs on hand already, its nice to be sure about the subs vc's before an amp is purchased.

if ur trying to compete in competition's try dc sound lab or Fi,DD, cascade designs etc.. theres plenty of sub's out there, really depends on what you can afford, and yes jl are over rated. 4-5 grand will do, and your gonna need batteries and an high output alt etc, list goes on.. gl

Well, in my opinion, you're an idiot.

Enough said.

Op, when you say upgrade, what do you mean? What are you looking for? More Bass? More sq?
