Default Audio Tips

Should I get an amp to just power my speakers? Also what would be the right type of amp to get, I mean power wise and cost also. Right now I'm just running stock using the wattage from the deck which is 4X52. I would like to improve the sound but I don't want to spend a lot of money. I'm tempted to get a sub but if I were to do that, I'd probably want to change the speakers and the deck.

Your deck is probably putting out more like 15 watts rms. You will notice a HUGE difference with an amp IMO. Its up to you to decide wether or not its worth it.

There are hundreds of amps out there. How much are you looking to spend?

I'm just worried about my front 5 1/4's cause they kind of distort when alot of bass comes up. Not sure if it's due to it being underpowered or because it's it can't handle the frequency. Most likely I'm just gonna go for an amp just to power these speakers, because I don't want to spend over $150 if that's possible. Would it sound ok with get a sub + amp without changing the existing speakers that I have. I'm thinking of getting the Polk 10 or 12 inch Momo with enclosure. Right I'm just thinking of ideas. If I get a amp to power the sub and all the speakers than I wouldn't mind paying $250-300. If I got that type of system would I need a capacitor, or is the wattage not high enough? Also what does ohm, bridge and channels for amps mean? I know channels for speakers relates to what sounds it produces but I have no idea for amps.

Also I know that I can put 6.5's in the front but I need a harness for it. I was wondering how would I be able to obtain one of these? Would Circuit City have it? That's where I plan on having it installed since I have no real audio places nearby.

Dave

if you just get a sub and a one channel amp for it, you can run all the lows to it, so it will take pressure off the other speakers, thus making them sound better. but if they're still stock, they wont sound that good. i just got my 4 speakers with an amp and my volume off the h/u is lower, so you get less distortion due to the nature of sound waves. hope that helped.

you're not getting full power the speakers can handle to your speaks. Like, b4 i got my amp, i had to put my sony at 22 volume for the same loudness i can get now at 13-14 with the amp.

If you just want a cleaner sound, then get a 4 channel amp that'll push your speakers near their limit. If you want some bump and don't mind spending some extra money, then you can look into a 5 channel amp. Just take a look around and find the best prices.

You won't need a capacitator.

I imagine Circuit City or Best Buy carry the adapters to put 6 1/2's in your doors as well; if not, look online.

Which sub do you reccomend out of these two? The 10-12" Kicker Solo Barric with Enclosure or the 10-12" Polk Momo with Enclosure?

Would this amp be ok? ALPINE MRV-F450

Oh I think I might have a found a decent sub to use. Lightning Audio B.400.4, it has an RMS 4X75W. (http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/LITB4004)

Since my rear 6X9's have an RMS of 100W and a Peak of 300W, my front 5 1/4's have an RMS of 45W and Peak of 135W. I also found out that my deck was outputing 20W RMS and Peak 52W so my speakers are underpowered especially my 6X9's.

I decided not to get a sub, 3 Channel 6X9's hit good enough for me, right now even underpowered it sounds like I have a small sub in the back so I guess I can live with that. Plus my neighbors have been complaining about the noise thing so I don't want to elevate it even more by getting a sub. An amp I don't mind because it will help my entire system clarity wise.

Just to see what your guy's suggestions, I don't particularly care for brand names just more of the price. But if there was a slight difference in price I wouldn't pass up a better name brand. I'm shooting for something around the 4X75W, since my 5 1/4's are rated at only 45W RMS, I didn't want to overpower them to much but then again I don't know to much about car audio. So if I'm wrong or if there are any good suggestions you all, please tell me.
