Why the use of large amounts of MDF in this pic?

The pieces running down the sides of the boot in a curved fashion dont appear to be needed Fantastic install though!

Would it be possible to fibrelgass a boot by using the factory boot liner, taping it up, then glassing it (the same way you would with a spare wheel well)? This way you get the factory boot shape which you can modify - cut holes in etc.

Just an idea..

With out them, the sides of the trunk would be straight and not concave like the builder wanted.....

Yes we need the MDF to support the curves we have. This car is regulary driven on the street during the summer for show events so we had to make the enclosure pretty darn strong because of the rough ride and the rough roads here in Nebraska.

And it also helped get the curved effect that we wanted like above mentioned. With out it we thought it wouldn't look as good without that curved appeal to it. So we made those supports and voila manfico.

And as far as the Neon's install here is a couple folders of pictures of the build up. This car was sold and now resides in Colorado.

Heres the pictures of both cars in front of our Store.

Holy cow, lots of love for the neon

Glad you like it.

I used to own the car, til I sold it to some spoiled kids mom

As far as the cost of the whole project, I didn't think the box would cost a lot, but then as we got into it, it started to rack up!!!

4 gallons of Resin = approx $200 (good stuff)
2 packs of mat = approx $50
Chomabase paint = $75
Clear = $60
Whatever you call the paint hardener = $40
Misc parts, gloves, spreaders, tape, etc = approx $50

I think the total costs came up to about $500 just for materials, LOL... never realized why we quote so high for f-glass boxes until then.

Pretty fun learning experience though! One of our installers did most of the work, and I sat and learned.

BTW, you can check out the new JL Audio "pocket" liturature that just came out, that install is on like the 4th page.

4 gallons of resin in that small box for that Neon?!?!?....HOLY **** - that's WAY too much IMO....good lord. I've built boxes that size with one, maybe 2 gallons before (at $25 per gallon) and maybe $25 of knytex.

How much mat (sq footage) did you use in that thing?

The pics are down right now, but are there a lot more 'glass pieces that I'm missing perhaps?!

Well, we had 3/4 of one gallon left over, and we made the thing super thick. Plus, each time we mix a batch, we dont use all of it all the time. So a lot of it was waste.

I'm just sayin what it cost, not what is actually in the box.

i've had best results with thicker (more expensive) fleece. the stuff you get at walmart isn't very stretchy. i always get fleece at a fabric store (sweatshirt material).
p.s. your pics didnt load
