How much is this install worth?
If you were a customer, how much would you pay for this type of install?
If your an installer, how much would you charge?

Please post a $$ number...
Thanks!

a little more about the setup would be good....
that amp rack looks really deep, and maybe that's what's forcing the box to stick so far out into the trunk? That would concern me. Also, I don't see any kind of venting for that amp...
Was the box custom or purchased....it's a bit hard to tell because of what looks like some plastic port's on the top of the box?

The box looks like one of the store bough Q-logic boxes. They sell them all day long up at Best Buy. The amp rack looks homemade...but it depends on a number of things you havent answered.
oh sorry, I'm talking about the install only... the kid bought everything and gave it to me to install. The (Q logic) box is to big to be pushed all the way back into the trunk, he didn't care so I made the amp rack deeper and larger then it needed to be bacause it saved time.
The amp has enough ventilation, plus it's running 4ohm stereo instead of bridge mode because the subs are 4ohms each (less current, not as much heat)...
Basically I ran the wires, built the amp rack, got rid of any trunk rattles, and tuned the setup to sound the best (not much to adjust).
I'm just wondering what would be a fair price for something like that...
the amp rack looks homemade? meaning it looks hack?

Okay I'll bite since you left so much up to personal interpitation....
Say you have the amp and subs and you want me to build this for your
car...
labor box/amp rack $300.00 ($50/Hr @ 6 hrs est)
materials $300.00 ( mdf,carpet neon,plexi,paint etc)
custom grille $450.00 ($75/hr @ 6 hrs est)
Total Charges $1050.00
What many of you don't understand is that Time = Money
Even though we may have templetes for the jobs we do regularly
Its the "one offs " that take so much time...its custom designed
and built for that application. Yes you can find "cookie cutter" one size fits all
MDF boxes on the market for about $60-75...but there is a difference.

Your labor pricing is dependent upon your skills IMO, and while the amp rack turned out nice, it's nothing special IMO. He's also not a shop, so he can't command anything near that price.
If that was a friend to mine, I'd do it for free or for a 12 pack of beer. If it's some kid, maybe $150-200...I wouldn't pay a dime for it b/c I do my own work...but that's irrelevant. If I was to pay for a job, I would have wanted that rack trimmed down, and vented...JMO
There's also less then 50 in material there...
edit...sorry, I took the customer's position, not the installer....If he was an installer for a shop, he could get away with highway robery, but if he was doing it out of his garage...see my comments above

I would refuse to pay for $50/hr of labor for someone who builds an amp rack too deep b/c it's "easier" that way. </TD></TR></TABLE>
Hey rcurley55, audioroach was talking about his version of this type of install, not my exact install. and who are you quoting? no one said "easier" I said "saved time" and that was because the kid only wanted to spend so much and I only had so much time in one day... building the amp rack deeper made absolutely no difference to the car owner because the Q logic box he bought doesn't push back all the way, so the useless space was there anyway.
all the wires are perfect, sounds great to him, and he should never have problems with the setup. I would never cut corners that affects the end product. I simply cost reduced a little...
I also would not charge $50/hr for my labor anyway, but dude you can pull the rod out of your *** anytime now.
other then that, thanks for the input everyone...

I re-read my post, and I came across a bit more harsh then what was intended, so I edited it to reflect what I should have said...
Time to suck it up and say sorry....
I realize what audioroach was talking about, and that's why I modified my thread to reflect that. My personal feeling is that if I dropped off my car somewhere, ended up with that install and a bill for $1000 I'd **** my pants.

It appears from the photos that the amp rack is keeping the box from sliding back. That was the impression that I received from your thread. I made a mistake in reading...sorry. Like I said before, the amp rack is nice and simple, and I think it turned out good.

I thought peeps loved me here...
Anyway...$50/hr is an avg shops hourly labor rate ( some higher some
less )..the Custom rate is once again the avg. Not highway robbery
by any means. And sor the record curly55...most shops would have given
an estimate before the work was started.

I figured as much....and sniff, sniff, why can't people spell my damn name right....I'm feeling sensitive today...
haha, see in fabrication, I consider $50/hour expensive, but for things I can't do...well, it's money well spent
I guess you charge what the market will bear, but it's all dependent upon your relationship to the customer, the customer's ability v. their time to do it themselves, the quality of the work, and the time it takes you to do it.
And of course...you ALWAYS agree on price first, and write it down on paper. A general rule of business....ahhh the things you learn from people's court

$500 max IMO would seem fair. In the end whats fair is what ever the cutomer is happy paying. If he is happy paying $1000 then who are you to argue. If he's upset with the price then you should have argeed on a price before you started or he should have shopped around. In the event you did this then want to charge him he kinda has you by the *****. It is unprofessional to do work without agreeing on a price first, you make yourself look unprofessional by doing this (if you did). If so bite the bullet and make the customer happy, learn from your mistake. If he's at fault, I guess would would ask myself how important this customer is. Why don't you call another local shop and ask them what they would charge.
In the event your just asking what I would pay see my first sentence. I would actually do it myself but if I was to pay that is what I would pay.

Nice job on the install, i say 300 or 400. This one kid i vaguely know got ripped on his install. He paid 2500 for a 10" w6, in a generic box, with two jl amps mounted on the back, one for the sub and a four channel for the highs(head unit has no amp) a panasonic cd player (goes for 299 mrsp), and new speakers, (i think clarion). The worse part is, his **** dont even knock. Its in a 97 jetta. Stay away from auto addictions in nj lol
haha, didn't mean to get everyone emotional... thanks for the positive comments on my work, next time I will make a slim amp rack no matter what.
anyway, I asked for about $250 and he decided to throw a little more my way, so we're all happy. I just moved into a new home with a garage finally and decided to make some extra cash on the side, I have a lot to learn about making business transactions... I've always done installs for friends for free but now I have a mortgage so I don't have time for free installs anymore...
thanks again for everyone's input...

It looks like a Rack I made when I was 16 working out my garage.. Its decent but not something I would pay 50 an Hour. We Charge 35 an Hour here..
How much yall think this install would cost?..

Just Kidding.. Its exspensive. And was Very Time Consuming.
