Default Sub problem

How come my sub (12 in. Kicker L7) isn't very loud? I just hooked it up. It's hooked up to a PPI-2200 bridge @ 4 ohms (800 watts). I have an Alpine 9835. It's hard to adjust the features on this thing! I have the sub feature turned on and the bass level all the way at 10 and the gain on the amp at min. I haven't messed with the gains but still, at that setting, the sub should bump already. It sound weak as hell! If I adjust the gain half way up, the sub would only be moderately loud.

You might have the coils out of phase with each other, which would cause this kind of problem. Or, as the post above hints at...the box could be causing it. Crossover on amp could be set to highpass. Ummm...yep.

It's in a custom ported box made to kicker's specs. It's dual 2 ohms, I've got it wired to 4 ohms. I'll try and hook it up to only one channel and see if there's any difference. Crossover isn't on high, it's on low. I hooked it up to one of my friends Punch 501bd and that amp pushed the sub just fine.

total shot in teh dark, but does it have that q-bass thing on it? If you activate it, won't it look for hat remote bass control thingy? perhaps that could be an issue?

Don't know, just throwing out random ideas.

I tried hooking it up to only one channel and it sounded even weaker. I tried messing with that q-bass thing, it has a **** on the amp. It helped a little bit. Maybe I'm just afraid to crank it. I think the highest volumn on my deck goes to 35. I've turned it up to 30. I thought the L7 was suppose to be loud!

I have one L7 on one channel of a Rockford 500a2 and it sounds very good. I would check all the wiring inside the box to make sure its right. Just to make sure it has dual 4ohm vc right...there for it has to be wired in 2 or 8 ohms. If you have it in 4 ohms you are either going to blow the vc's or the channel on the amp.

The sub is dual 2 ohms. I wired it to 4 ohms because that's the lowest my amp can handle. At 4 ohms, my amp should be pumping out 800 watts. I'm pretty sure I wired it up right, because if it was wired up at 1 ohm, my amp should shut down or be hot as hell.

well i had the same problem with my alpine amp when i bridged it. it ended up being that i needed to get a Y-adapter for the rcas. basically i plugged the (L) rca in the back of the headunit, then ran a (female-2 males) Y-adapter off the other end of the (L) cord of the rca. then just plugged the two males from the Y-adapter into the amp. it would bump but not very loud, you could bearly hear it, then when i did that it started working. thats how my manual said to hook the rcas when it is bridged.
