How hard is it to install a security system?
If you don't already know, then you should not do it yourself. Even if you can figure it out on your own, I can guarante that it will not be a good install. As any profesional installer will tell you, an alarm is only as good as its install. Looking back now, I can't believe some of the things I did when I first started out as a prof. installer.
it's as "easy" as installing a deck, subs and amp.
But look at it this way - if you've installed a deck, subs and amp - what was it like the first time, and how much better have you done it since then for friends, or in other cars? What can you STILL improve upon during your install.
Ok, now an alarm can easily have 30 connections to be correctly made - a system, about 5 (pwr, gnd, remote, speaker, fuse) so the numbers themselves are already daunting.
On top of this - when you havn't done something because you didn't feel like it, or didn't know about it with a audio system - it's not as bad as what could happen if you do that kind of stuff with an alarm.
The good ideas you have on where to put and place your alarm - we already know them, theives already know them.. the tricks you've thought of or heard - already done. With an alarm you not only have to be creative, you must know how to layer security to make it work for you - else it's just an item of convinience for remote stating and door lock/unlock.
My advice - either learn tons about it before attempting to jump right in, or get it professionally installed and pay good money for it. A good installer, or a knowledgeable one could make a $40 alarm have all the bells whistels and functionality of a much more expensive model (through add-ons and such).
Along with this - I'd like to also say, that you STILL research the alarm even if you go the pro route - this way you know that you don't want the standard behind the kickpanel install, you would like a fuel cut, you would love if you could get your hood wire relocated etc. etc.
and now i've talked too much. Sorry

on an older accord depending if you have power door locks or not your looking at about 10 wires. Door Trigger, Power, Ground, Siren, Parking lights, lock, unlock. If it has starter kill: Starter wire. If it has Remote start: Starter wire, accessory, ignition, brakewire, hoodpin, and tach wire. I wouldnt recommend doing it by yourself if your not a professional.
