Stock 97 civic lx... Blowing radio fuse & no power to cigarette lighter
I did a huge search before making this post, but I haven't found an answer yet. I know people have talked about jumping wires, but I keep blowing fuses. PLEASE HELP!
Radio problem:
Every time I turn the key the fuse blows
Cigarette outlet problem: Power to the fuse and through the fuse, but no power to the wire coming out of the fuse box.
What I have done so far:
Check all fuses with multimeter
Checked all grounds
No constant power to radio y/r wire to radio comes on with acc
This is a stock car with no modifications at all, never been modified (as far as I can tell).
PLEASE HELP! I really want to get my dash put back together!

Constant power for radio is fuse 47 - 7.5A "back-up" fuse in engine bay fuse box, not under dash fuse box, or are you talking about the radios acc. fuse, fuse 28 - 10A in under dash fuse box.
Is this the stock radio?
Not sure if lighter is on the same fuse, [fuse 47] on a 97 Civic, unplug the lighter, [wire on back of lighter housing] the ligher housing may be shorting out. 94

Re: Stock 97 civic lx... Blowing radio fuse & no power to cigarette lighter
Hi guys,
Thanks for posting up!
I did all of the tests on the cig lighter on the actual wires with the socket removed. Also i am referring to no having power coming from the back of the #27 fuse under the dash.
In this civic there is a separate fuse for the lighter and radio (#27 and #28). Could they be shorting out in the fuse box?
If I turn the car on with the radio unplugged the fuse doesn't blow. When I plug it in, it blows.
I have checked and swapped the 7.5 fuse under the hood even though it looked good.

If unplugging the the radio prevents fuse blowing the short is in the radio.
If you have power on both test tips of fuse #27 and not on the lead to the lighter then the problem is in the fuse box, [open circuit]. 94

Thank you,
I will order a new radio, but I am confused about the fuse box.... Do I just unplug all the connectors and pull it out? If so what am I looking for?

Re: Stock 97 civic lx... Blowing radio fuse & no power to cigarette lighter
Wow talk about being a procrastinator, apparently driving a car with the dash out still isn't enough of a motivator!
Well I put the new fuse box in and...... still no power to the cigarette lighter and the radio fuse still blows.
With the new radio in however...... The radio works and the fuse doesn't blow!!!
So the radio problem has been solved.
Can anyone point me in the direction as to where the Accessory Plug (Yellow/Green) wire comes out of the fuse box. Also is there a relay in this circuit?
