stereo problemo
i cant figure this one out. i installed my stereo about 2 months ago and everything was working great however i did not keep it neat and tidy in the trunk area. i just left excess wire there and didnt trim it down. recently i did some cleaning up in the trunk and zip tied the wires into individual coils. when i did this i would only disconnect one wire at a time so i wouldnt mess anything up and confuse wires. when i turned on the car and wanted to enjoy my music i got nothing but a terrible noise and a bad amp. i turned the amp back in to kenwood on warranty but i still have the terrible noise. the kenwood amp runs my subs and i have a rockford (4 channel) running the 4 speakers in my car. the rockford seems to be running just fine. any suggestions on things to check?
Coiled wires =
Changes in Electron Flow (like when an Audio Signal passes through your Speaker Wire) create Electro-Magnetic Fields. This can be enough to Disturb/Distort what would otherwise be a clean(er) signal.
Whether or not it is the MAIN contributor to your problem... I don't know... But try to trim your Speaker Wire to an appropriate length, and get rid of the coiling. It will give you one less potential source of your trouble.

If you have the coils close enough together, you just created yourself a coreless transformer. The power wires induce a magnetic field which is then picked up by the signal wires and amplified by your amps. So either uncoil the wires or move the coils away from each other.
Jason posted while I was typing, but we both pretty much said the same thing.

i have uncoiiled the power wire and the ground wires are only as long as they need to be. will the speaker wires actually matter since they arent really power? well they are but they arent volts. the problem still exists but not as bad. there is a bad poping sound and i have run the car while moving the wires around but onlt individually. i have pictures of the way the wires are coiled if youd like to see them. just let me know and ill send them. im a bit of a newb but i have had people that know a decent amount about stereo check it out and they were kinda stumped. i also have a sound clip of the noise im hearing.
thanks

Anytime Electrons flow through a Conductor, it can create an EM Field. Unless the wires are adequately insulated, this can be enough to cause distortion/disturbance in wires that are close in proximity...

Now that you've uncoiled your Speaker Wires, check your Audio Lines to your Amplifier, and see if there are any other wires in close proximity to them that might be causing this. The distorted signal may be coming from the wire connecting your HU to your Amp. But, since your system was fine before you cleaned up your trunk, I can't think of this being a major reason for your problems... Maybe the "bad" Amp screwed up something in your HU... I'm not knowledgeable nor experienced enough to know for sure here, but maybe someone else can chime in.

Is this coming from ALL of your Speakers, or does it seem to be isolated to to your Sub (the one that had the "bad" Amp), or does it seem to come from the other 4 Speakers? It's all about Signal Flow, so try to draw a diagram of your setup's connections to help you hunt down the culprit, starting from the Endpoints (Speakers). Since you've mentioned that uncoiling the wires from your Rockford helped, it seems to me that there's still a little distortion coming from an earlier connection point. The last thing I can think of is to double check your connections and grounds to make sure they are secure and clean, and didn't get messed up somehow.

H-T recently added the "i-serve" link in the upper right hand corner of your browser as well...
But this is about as far as my brain can go. I'm sure others will contribute... eventually...
Best of luck, and let us know!!
