Default SQ sub...

So I'm not trying to win the spl wars, just want a really nice sq setup...

Have a Kenwood head, Polk 6.5 separates, Soundstream Van Gogh multi-channel amp, and a 2-channel Soundstream Rubicon to power the sub. Maybe the Ruby isn't mega-powerful, but bridged should be fine.

The candidates: Orion, Boston, Image Dynamics, and others in the $150-$300 class, 10"-12".

I assume I will need a smallish box, ported or sealed. It's going in my trunk, a 98 'cord lx.

Again: sq, not spl. I do love spl for movies, but for music, prefer sq. Thx!!!

btw, anybody else into Phat? Damn fine way to get your mp3 and aac on the road...and with the hack, can get an 80gb in for 100 bux...

Anybody tried/heard of Avalanche? They appear to have a really good design, but haven't been able to try them.

the ascendant audio avalanche? i believe they are discontinued. there was some sort if drama happening with AA and adire audio. they are pretty decent for SQ and offer great low end.

For SQ you cant beat Elemental Designs subs. For price and SQ.I believe they do best in a sealed box,but can go ported and get loud with excellent SQ.

Phat=Phatnoise, maker of the Phatbox line of audio/mp3 players: http://www.phatnoise.com/produ...x.php

I like it cuz it's dedicated for the car, easy to put a big drive in, and it interfaces perfectly with my Kenwood hu. Acts like a never-ending cd-changer...

What was the problem? I have been having fun with mine. And it was cheap, plus I put a big hard drive in with a hack. I don't have a need for it being anywhere but my car.

The ascendant audio avalanche isn't a bad sub at all. Honestly, if I didn't have a boner for the Seas Lotus sub, the avalanche would be my top sub. Good luck getting a hold of one though.

Been fine, but it's been about 6 months. I'd be concerned too, but my experience with the "mature" units has been good. My only gripe was the price of upgrade drives, but there's a way around that. Leave the cd's home now...
