anybody have experience with this driver?

http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...p?series_id=30

this speaker seems ideal for my goals- high impact shallow sub that requires minimal volume...and is a "sealed only" sub. i need to figure out a solution for my tacoma double cab.

the biggest issue seems how to power it - 3 ohms, doh!

Re: JL 13tw5
Just get an amp that is 1ohm stable and your fine. 2 of those in parallel will give you a 1.5ohm load.

Re: JL 13tw5
I used one in tundra crewmax with plenty of power and it was horrible. I tried 3 different boxes, sealed as recommended, larger sealed, and ported. None of them sounded good. Low output and craps out with more power. I was definitely disappointed especially considering the price. I would use a couple 6" before another one of these.

Re: JL 13tw5
the last truck we a built a shallow box for we used 4 8" jl subs in a single chamber...the 8w1v2 has a mounting depth of less then 4 inches.

Re: JL 13tw5
I think they're still out of stock. They're is a thread DIYMA about the new Alpine Type-R's, and there was an Alpine engineer on there discussing them and I must say I was pretty impressed. It appears they actually spent some time on quality re-engineering them and did some important things like focusing on linearizing BL, etc. There was more info in there about the normal R's than the Slim's from what I recall, but they put the same focus into the Slim line so I wouldn't be surprised if they were solid drivers as well.

thanks.

i ran a type r 12 in my ms3 in a winisd spec'd box and it was amazing. i considered the slims but i figured this would be a nice opportunity to try a boutique sub since i've always stuck with alpine. plus the price, ugh! i will have first get type r components up front and a pdx 4.150 running them and the sub - all of that equipment is the same setup i had in my ms3 and it was ample.

Re: JL 13tw5
I have installed two of them in an older Chev PU, using the 500/1 amp to drive them, it worked out OK, customer was happy, however I have to agree with, 2k.civic.si, I did the 8W1v2, 4 of them in single sealed box, two per chamber, also with the 500/1, it was much better then the two 13TW5s. 94

Re: JL 13tw5
i've never seen a JL sub worth the money they want for them, that being said, go with some kind of 8" sub, the DC Audio LVL2 8" is a great sub, depending on how much mounting depth you have.
