Default Remote Starter problems

Hey fellas.

My sister's 99 civic ex has had an older DEI alarm with remote start on it.

Well lately, the whole system starting screwing up big time.

Sometimes the siren won't work and only get flashing lights instead of lights and noise.

But tha'ts not the problem

Lately, when we try to remote start, we get "click click click noise" from the enegine bay and it doesn't start.

No idea why it doesn't start anymore, but if we start it from inside, it works fine.

Any ideas?
TIA

First thing I would check is the install, the connections, if they are not all soldered connections you probably have some bad ones, the other thing that can happen with older units is the relays go west, and you have little or on output from them.

You will need a multimeter or at the very least a test light to check things. 94

I didn't install the system, and I don't know anything about wiring for alarms and remote starters

Then take it back to the place that installed it and take advantage of DEI's lifetime warranty...

I don't know where it was installed. I bought the car with it. The dealership did not even know it had remote start.

You're sure it's clicking from the engine bay, and not from under the dash?

It could be, i'll double check tomorrow. What if it was from under the dash, what does that tell me?

Thanks

Tell us what you need. You're saying you can't fix it yourself. Take it somewhere.

Could be a bad ground or bad relay (or relay pack).

Then answer the question where the clicking is coming from.

k, it's coming from under the hood. I think she has a bad battery or bad starter.

But you said it starts normally with the key? If so, then it may be that a relay is going bad and not throwing enough voltage to the starter wire. Check the ground on the brain of the unit and make sure it's clean and not corroded.

Probably near the brain. But you'll actually need to crawl up under the dash and drop the whole assembly. Get us a make and model while you're up there.
