remote start?
im gettin an alarm my dei and its got remote start. i know you can hook it up to manual transmissions but id be scared id leave it in gear and start it w/ the remote. i want to keep the remote start option though , i think it would be a cool thing to have, but is thre a way so it would only work when the car is in neutral, and not in gear?
I do remember the did make netural safety switch, but don't know if it still around check with ur local audio shops. also a turbo timer might help u remeber to leave it in netural. but still good judgement is the best.
clifford had a system out that you can do it with a manuel tranny, but it was a pain in the neck.. i belive dei (which now owns clifford) is in the proccess of making something up as well
just make a switch it's not hard. go ask for a hood pin switch from whereever you got the alarm/remote start. Make a nice L bracket out of some thicker metal (you can see if they have the hood pin L brackets there, those work fine). You put the hood pin into the L bracket, and then mount the L Bracket near your shifter so when your shifter is in first gear it will put the hood pin in, and then mount the hood pin. I've done this in a Mazda 626, and it worked perfectly. When the car was parked (the guy always parked with it in 1st) it wouldnt' allow the remote start to operate. Cheap and effective!

4th gear with the ebrake on wouldn't move... or shouldn't. It will burn the starter up though. 2nd might... i know first will in a honda for sure. It won't bolt but it will slowly move forward. Most people do park in 1st though as it's hardest for the car to roll or be moved while parked in first. Plus it's the gear you start out in.
yeap. Honda clutch switchs are super easy. Just jumper the two wires in the switch. Or if you want to get creative you can use the grounding output from the remote start (the one that goes to ground right before the remote start kicks in) to control a relay which jumpers the wires... this way if someone else gets into your car and trys to start it w/o pushing in the clutch it acts normal... but when it remote start it it starts.
As a side note, there are two switchs, atleast in the 5th gen prelude, on teh clutch pedal. you just have to double check and jumper the one that gets switched when the clutch is pushed all the way to the floor.

There are new systems out there that allow for remote starting of manual cars. All you have to do is the hokie-pokie before you get out and it will start the next morning.
Seriously, you have to leave the ign on and set the parking brake, put it in neutral, then ign off. Get out and set the alarm, then it knows the car is in neutral for safe starting. Different systems use different procedures.

i was wodering the same exact thing. i was looking at the viper 790 xv and wanted to know if i could wire it to my car. i went to circuitcity and asked them, but the guy started to act like a dick and told me it was illegal to wire it to a manual car.
yes, u can do it but i'd buy one that is designed for manual so u have all the safety features built in. For example aladdin a2000, i've installed one of these for a friend and works perfectly. Safetly features designed to only start in neutral and by following a squence of steps before u shut ur car off. If any steps are skipped remote start won't activate.

Yeah, the Aladdin A2000 is perfect for manual transmission remote starts. Its discontinued though and its replacement is called the Lynx. Check out http://www.gopme.com. Maybe you can call them and ask them for a old Aladdin if you're interested.
If you really want to remote start a manual vehicle with like a DEI Viper 790XV, you can do it with some Bosch relays and a turbo timer.
What you want it to do is...
When you turn off the car with the doors closed, the engine should run like a standard turbo timer equipped vehicle. When you open the door, close it, and arm the alarm system, the engine should turn off. If you open the door to, lets say, get something out of the glove box, and then you close it, the remote start feature won't work.
What the engine running is supposed to do is, verify that the car was left in neutral. Or else it would've stalled. And the door opening is supposed to assure the system that nobody came in and moved the shifter into gear.
Anyways, good luck figuring that out with the relays and a turbo timer. I did it and it took me a few hours. Don't ask me cause I forgot how I did it.
