Pioneer Premiere DEH680MP question
I have this head unit installed into my car. I just got my system installed but I'm confused at how the setup works. I go through the settings and I can switch the rear outputs between s/w and f.range speakers.
When I switch it to s/w my rears which are powered by the deck seem to turn off, and I lose f/r on the fader settings. All the settings under s/w effect the sound of the sub which is hooked up to the rear rca.
When I switch to f.range the sub is on, but when I turn s/w off under the menu nothing changes. I do regain my fader control but this leaves me to wonder if my HPF is working properly on the rears. I have pioneer 3 ways in the back don't know the power handeling but probably more than the deck puts out. I think they are blown now, because I turned up the volume and I don't think the HPF was doing it's job. I don't think a moderately loud volume, deck powered at 125hz should blow those so easily. I could be wrong.
I just want to know how this deck works properly so I can set it up right next time around.
TIA

Re: Pioneer Premiere DEH680MP question (darkspector2.0)
I assume you mean the Pioneer DEH-P680MP.
Both the rear speaker outputs and the rear RCA outputs are switched between full range and sub output, page 62... http://www.pioneerelectronics....l.pdf so to make the sub work, [and have control] you will need to set rear output to sub, [Rear SP:S/W] if you want the rear speakers to run off the HUs rear speaker outputs you will need to set the HUs rear output to full range, [Rear SP:F.Range], or you can use full range and use the x-over on the sub amp for the sub, [no sub HU control], are the front speakers on the HU or are they on an off board amp? 94

The fronts are running off the HU also. I have the HU set on full range right now. I'm just wondering if the HPF only applies to the HU amp and the rear RCA's is getting a full signal and it's using my amps x-over

Re: (darkspector2.0)
The high-pass filter effects front and rear speaker outputs and is adjustable from 50Hz, 63Hz, 80HZ, 100Hz and 125Hz, rear output should stay full range so you can use the amps LP filter for the sub. 94

Damn, you'd think that the rear output wouldn't switch like that. It kind of makes the s/w HU control useless. As far as I saw I didn't see front RCA outputs. I didn't look either. But,kind of awkward setup if you ask me.

Re: (darkspector2.0)
Yes it does have front preamp outputs, along with rear and sub outputs.
It is a bit of a goofy HU, not sure what Pioneer was thinking when they made it as complicated as they did.
Maybe you can make some sense of it...

Ok... I see now... that is kinda dumb. I would've made the sub outputs breakout like the rears and put the rear flush like the front. That would make MUCH more sense to me. You see I used nimble fingers and a flashlight to plug this in... LoL, no wonder I didn't see the sub output. I bet once I do that, I will be good to go finally. Then I will be able to control my sub.
No wonder the rears switch off like that...
