need help choosing amplifier
i need an amp to power my new subs. Infinity Kappa perfect 12.1's (2) 12in. they put out 350watt RMS and 1400 watt peak. 96db sensitivity. I need a good amp under $500. However i cant seem to find any decent ones, either 350watt Rms per channel or 700watt RMS mono. Help please!!!!!!!!
How about a JL Audio 1000/1 you will have to keep the gain down a little, [1000W RMS]... http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...d=221 there are more then a few at eBay for around $500 or less, [used]

Boston Acoustics GT-24. ~900-1000rms @ 2ohm
Had that amp in my car for the last year and love it. Plenty of power even @ 4ohm.
Orrrrrr an alpine MRDM1005 (power @ 2ohm), Orrrrrr a diamond audio D3800.1 (if you can wire those subs down to 1ohm) or a kenwood KACX812D (underpowered unless you run @ 1ohm). What impedance are your woofers?

4ohms. and wouldnt i want an amp that gives me exactly 700watt RMS if i go with something that has like say 1000watt RMS wouldnt i blow out my subs?
That Boston Acoustics is only 175watt/channel. however the alpine looks tasty. BTW how would i wire my subs for 1 ohm? can u tell im kinda a dumbass when it comes to electronics?
That boston is rated at 500rms @ 4ohm bridged or 900rms @ 2ohm bridged. I ran those 900rms to a 450rms sub for a long time and never had a problem with it. Good, clean, and loud
Imo as long as you have clean power it is rather difficult to overpower a speaker

still i turn em all the way up when i feel like showing up the multiple Veedub guys at my school so im afraid to get something thats too powerful. aka im an obnoxious ricer bastard.

</TD></TR></TABLE> Ditto the above, your better off "overpowering" your subs rather then "under-powering" them, with the bigger amp you can control output with the gain control, with a smaller amp gains will have to be up and you will still drive amp into clipping before subs run out of "room" and a continually clipping amp will burn up the VCs.
You can not wire two 4 ohm speakers to a 1 ohm load, if you wire them in parallel you get a 2 ohm load, if you wire them in series you get a 8 ohm load.

i still dont know tho, the alpine amp will give me 1000WRMS at 2 ohms cuz i have to run them in parallel. i guess ill just go with that

Too much heat, too much excursion will send your sub into eternal sleep...with good, clean power
That's the point of no return
Keep your gains down and waste the extra watts you paid for
