Default need help building box

Well, a long time ago before I knew what kind of car I was gonna get, I bought (2) 12" Alpine Type-R SWR-1221D, now I have a 92 VX and the subs need to be put in. (I wish I didn't buy such big subs, 10's would of worked nicely)

I want to build a ported box, and I have been looking around and can't really find plans for one, nor do I really know what kind of specifications the box would need
to be. On Crutchfield, they recommend that the volume for each chamber be,".75-1.75 cubic feet." Does one size work better than the other? I was just thinking of making it to be 1.25 cubic feet, (right in the middle) does this sound good?

Also I am a bit confused about amps/ohms/and all that stuff.

What would be the best amp for these subs (they are 2 ohm)?

4-Channel/2-Channel, (D-series)What are they all about?

Do I want to be able to run my 4 component speakers to the amp, or should I leave them in the cd player amp?

Sorry guys I am just so confused, Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All right sounds like you need some help I'll try. Unless you want to amps your going to run them from the head unit. Both speakers are two ohms are the DVC? if the are then you run one in series and one in parallel and run a mono amp at 2 ohms. A D model amp would be the best, they are the most effiecinet.

As to the box, it sound a little small for a ported size, I'll bet you that is the sealed size, the difference in size is to account for what kind of music your going to want it to preform the best with. I depends on the size and pitch of your port.

Hey thanks, I looked around a little bit more and found some of my answers. Yes they are DVC. I have the paper work still... and it explains how to run one in series and one in parallel. (good thing I held onto that) Model D sounds liek what I'm gonna go with, either a Kenwood KAC-8101D
or an Alpine MRD-M1000 I like the quality of Alpine, but the price for that amp could be a little lower. Will it out perform the Kendwood?

I am looking for an amp that can handle the everyday hardcore beating of these subs. I had hooked them up before to a friends brand new 500watt kenwood amp, but it blew after about 1 week of him using them. I listen to all types of music, more rap and techno than anything else though. So I really like the feel of the bass opposed to it just being really loud.

The Kenwood KAC-8101 amp $180 is considerably cheaper than the Alpine MRD-M1000 $580.

Thanks again for you help Torridcivic

The larger the enclosure, more spl when it's a ported enclosure but you lose SQ the larger you get because of dramatic loses of cone control.
