need help with amp/sub
are there different amp settings or the way the amp is connected to make the the subwoofer vibrate instead of pound .. like a real strong vibration instead of a BOOM ? .. or does it all depend on the subwoofer itself ? .. or the box ? i have 2 12 inch L 5's and i bought them used along with the box and amp and i dont know anything at all about subs/amps .. i m trying to look for the vibrate sound instead of the pounding sound .. any help is appreciated
Your looking for "tight accurate bass" instead of "deep boomy bass" read this, all of it, it may help..... http://www.kicker.com/05/tech-...0.pdf
You are correct, partly, the type of sub bass you get has to do with the subs you use, but a lot more with what kind of sub box you use and how well it is constructed, and of coarse how its "tuned" but by far the most critical part is the sub box itself.
You could have the best sub in the world along with the best amp, and the would sound like crap in an improperly built box, but even a cheap sub and amp can sound good in a properly constructed box.
I see you have 2 x 12" L5s what kind of amp, [make and model] your L5s need about 1200W RMS power to drive them properly, and thats a pretty good sized amp needing at least a 4ga power and ground lead

The settings on the amp are there for a reason, but unless the box is right for the sub you have, [EG: one 10" 250W sub may go into a 1/2 cuft box another may need 3/4 cuft and another will need a 1 cuft box, with a sealed box if the box volume is off by 10% its not a biggy, but with a ported box if box volume is of or port volume is not correct, not only will it sound like crap, but even if the amp is set up properly, you can still destroy the sub.
