Default JL subs

Im looking at getting some subs for my 00 civic. i am kind of stuck on JL audio subs, and running an alpine mrf-f850 amp just because it matches my 4 way amp i got pushing my type r speakers. i want bass, but im looking for sq more. i was thinking 1 12 w7 or 2 w3v2's the amp is 500 at 4 ohm and 800 at 2 ohm. what would give me the best sounding set up that wouldnt be to loud and overpower my speakers. im not a person who alays has their stereo cranked, i like it at a medium volume, to enjoy the music, so i dont really have to worry about parts falling off from to much bass.

You mean the MRP-F850. ... http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-e...tab=F right?

The W3 is a 750W 3 ohm sub, so you will be a little under powered, [amp will make about 650W into 3 ohms] the W3v2 is a 300W sub so two 12W3v2-D2 wired series/parallel for a 2 ohm final load would work better, with about a 3dB gain from just doubling the cone area, also because of the overpowering you would get much better dynamic headroom.

You say your do not listen to the system cranked all the time, so you could get away with the single W3, [definitely take up less space].

If you are looking for SQ over SPL then I would go with a single 10W7. 94

I would look into a MTX 8500 10'' dvc. Run it at 2 ohms, 800 watts. It will set you back about 400 but has amazing output, and still very tight and accurate. Or get 2 7500 10'' 4 ohm single voice coil. give them 400 watts each at a 2 ohm load for the amp. It will pound in your car.

Yea,,,, I am building a enclosure for my navigator right now, 3-10'' mtx 7500. Plenty of sub to beat any jl to death-Sorry 94dc2. The 7500 is a good sub for two good reason. Its pounds really hard in spl and can be setup to provide sq. And the power range works for people on a power budget. This is the major reason I chose it for my app over the 8500 and the 9500. Plus weight issues too. As this is a dd.

On my teg I still contiplating on either 4- 8500's or 3- 9500's. As this is my race/show car.

were is that pesty 94dc2 with his jl audio info and support.

i have two 12w7's.....singular in each car lol

with my w7 an jl 500/1 in my s2000 it produces a nice clean hard hitting bass...tighter than the setup in my civic, large sealed mdf box

in the civic, again, 12w7, a smaller sealed mdf box, but i have a hifonics 400 watt amp powering it.....sound is not as clean, but hits a little harder. thats probably due to the shape of the car (hatchback)

either way i dont think you will be disappointed with a 12 or even 10w7.......

I'd look at image dynamics if you're looking for SQ. Another option would be the ARC flatlines

w7's are not really a SQ sub; however, it's what I'm currently running and to be honest I'm happy with them.

How loud speakers are has more to do with the box they are in and power driving them.
Everything being equal, in an A/B test you will not be able to tell the diff. in SPL between one sub and another. 94

well i never have heard of that brand before.. i didnt know if they were like pyles or any of those off brands.. i am only going to be pushing 800 rms at 2 ohms with the amp, im building the system around that amp. may not be the "right" way to do it. but i have one amp, and i want the amp that is the same size as it. so if that means i need to get 2 of those for 2 subs, then so be it. i know i could get alot better performance with a 1000 watt at 1 ohm amp... but i want a nice sounding, matching system. im not looking for subs to over power my speakers, i just want to add the low end to the mid and high i already have. im not going to go cheap on the system, i pulled out the walmart speakers for a reason.

i guess what i am trying to get, is a great sounding sub to add on to my great sounding speakers. (i know some people dont think alpine is that great of a brand, but i personally love them) everone i have asked in this area told me that jl was the way to go if you could afford them. i have heard them, and like the sound of the W7. its a great sounding speaker.. i just dont know if there is a better sounding speaker out there at close to the same wattage. if i wanted loud, i would just by the 22" mtx... i just want balance. im sorry for not making myself clear enough in my first post on exactly what i wanted. and i value everyones optinions, ill take all options i can possibly get, and then choose from there what is the most appealing to me. im not asking you guys to build my setup, just want is compairiable, what is great sounding, what has the best sq, and what wont be over powering my current setup. im not a guy that likes only the sound of bass. i like all aspects of music, and i just need a little more bass for my setup.

I have two 12" JL subs in a sealed box 400 watts rms each. They sound GREAT! I get compliments on them all the time.

Man I was just about to post that. We can name subs for days. Model after model. If the sub is matched to the enclosure and power rating its going to hit no matter what. If you want big boy bass get a jl-w6-w7 or a alpine type-r or type-x or mtx 7500's and up 0rkicker l7 and up. Or any other name brand highend sub from a reptuable company. Match it to you amp and be done.

This thread is starting to go nowhere and is not going to help the op.

OP what is your budget.

Ditto the above^^^

Also, what is the make and model of the amp you want to use for the sob(s)?
How much total RMS wattage is the system, [without sub bass]? 94

List the model number of your amp and the speakers being used. I want to know what really going on with your system.

Then tell me what brand that YOU want to go with. I will put toghter a set up that will work.

Also are you using a pre-fab enclosure or are building one. What kind of enclosure are you using. Sealed, ported, bandpass, 5 order, port-thru.

front speakers: 6 1/2 alpine spr-17s
rear speakers: 6x9 alpine spr-69c
amp: mrp-f550

the amp i want to run is is a mrp-m850 either 1 or 2, but this amp for sure. maches my other amp just because its the same size as the amp i have. and want a clean set up. i can build my own box, i have a full sheet of wood and carpet already. but i was looking at either a ported or sealed box. depends on the sub i guess. and looking at jl or something compairable. i know jl has boxes that are designed for their subs and am sure other brands have the same.

Get 2- 12 inch alpine "r" subs. Run them in a 2cft3 enclosure ported into the back deck. Even thou with that amp you will be under powered by 100 watt per sub it will knock.

Or a pair of alpine 15'' type-r speakers and run two of the amps that you allready have for the subs. Do the big three upgrade, get a bigger alternator, A new competition battery from http://tsunamionline.com/product_listing.php?id=4 or some were. The more cca the better. And keep a full alpine system. The choice is now going to be up to you.
