Default ipod integration, sub questions

alright so ive had a little experience with car audio, installed a cd deck and replaced the four crappy speakers with aftermarket ones in my corolla daily driver. it was a very tedious task because i had to remove all kinds of trim, dash components, rear deck, seatbelt components ect, definately not replacement friendly.
anyway ive been plotting my crx audio setup lately and decided i want to integrate an ipod into my system. i plan on buying an alpine head unit, 4 alpine speakers, possibly a four way amp for those and an amp for the two 12" type E's I have.
ive been looking at the alpine head units and a lot of them say ipod ready but it also says you need a cable or something, so does a cable plug into the back of the head unit and into your ipod? if so im assuming it plugs into the headphone jack on the ipod, which in turn would leave the bottom jack available for charge from the cig lighter. also, are the car stands to put your ipod on your dash adjustable, so you could leave a case on the ipod while its on the stand?
and finally, is it even possible to fit a dual 12" box in the back of my car?
sorry if this is confusing i tried to word it as best as possible.
also, if anyone has any pics of ipod integration and whatnot please share.
thanks

The Alpine head units that have the full speed ipod cable are the CDA-9852 and up. The ipod cable also charges the ipod while it is plugged in. The full speed cable plugs into the slot on the bottom of the ipod, nothing into the head phone jack. Sorry I dont have any pics.

Yeah you buy it separately but right now a lot of authorized dealers are including them when you buy a Alpine head unit that is compatible with the full speed cable. The cable is only like 25-35 bucks though.

9852's and down need a special adaptor which will run you about a hundred bucks

youre best bet would be going with 9856 (199.99) and getting a free cable (its a free cable w/ purchase at american tv... you prbably dont have one, but the cable can't be too expensive elsewhere)

either way I'd go with the 9856, nicer deck. Good Job knowing something I didn't... on a side note I'd never get the 9852 due to the one pre-out.
