if u can get it for cheap then go for it...if $700 for a deck (must be atleast the 9811 model or higher), 2 front components and 2 6x9s rear then it doesnt sound that cheap to me, but not that expensive either.
However I highly recommended the alpine deck, but not speakers.

I have teh alpine 9811 head unit and a alpine type r 10" sub w/ an alpine mono amp. never had any problems with any of them, and they are great things.

the head unit amp is really great with aftermarket speakers

I have an older set of Alpine separates and they sound great. Alpine makes some quality stuff.

for the cost of the alpine "type-r" speakers, you can get urself some better speakers, like mb quart premium series or phoenix gold tantrum...i personally wouldnt buy **** from alpine other than decks and in-dash dvd

heres what i would do. forget abuot the type R's front and back and go type-X up front and disconnect the rears. thast what i've got right now and it sounds pretty good. I've got the 7995 deck and the MRV-f340 amp bridged to power them. i wouldn't bother powering anything off the head unit. jsut bite the bullet and pick up a small 2ch amp
