Default Integra Sound System

All,

I decided that the car needs some more bass. I am thinking of going with a single ten inch sub (maybe a kicker SB, or a JL W6). What are your feelings on using a single sub...b/c I remember someone mentioning that when doing a system, there should always be intervals of two for the woofers, for the best sound qualoty. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jon

Go with whatever sounds good to you. I know a lot of people who go with one 10" JL W6 with about 250 watts of rms power. For myself I went with three 12" RF XLC with a punch 800a2 . As you can see i like a lot of bass. anyway, if you go with one 10" you won't need that much dynamat if any. I personally would go with a 10" jl if i was on a low budget, but wanted the best bang for the buck.

Thanks...for the help. Heres the thing. I am not really on a budget. I want to find a way to get a system with pretty good bass that does not add any significant weight. In other words, I want to remove weight to compensate for the added system weight. Weight is a critical factor of going fast in my car....so any recommendations would be appreciated! I am not on a budget, I am willing to hook up top-notch equipment.

Thanks,
Jon

as with the guy before i went with a single sub as well. I have also made alot of systems for friends, alot of which have chosen to go with rockford fosgate. You can get them at Best Buy and usually get a pretty good deal if you catch them on special or on an Open Box special. I went with the 12" XLC as well. I dont have near the 800a2 that the guy before me has....thats way un called for. I didnt even know that speaker could take that kinda power. I have a RF way lower then that and older. Its an older style before they redid there rating systems and the rating numbers...but anyhow. I feel that a punch 200a2 will be more then adaquate for pushing that sub. OH yeah, be sure to get a sealed box, RF's respond best with sealed boxes. Kicker will work fine as well, im just not as familar with there product lines. Whatever you choose just be sure and do it up right. INstallation can be the weak link in many sysems. If you dont feel confident let hte guys there do it. The guys at BB are really cool most of the time. Good luck.

As far as the sub all the above posts are right on. You have a few options for a box. I agree with using a sealed box. It's not difficult to fab one yourself. Plexiglass is your best bet for light weight, but it's a major PITA to work with compared to MDF, however it will be light, pretty as well if you're into the "look." Good luck!

I have an 8" Bazooka fed with 110W RMS, and I'm happy with the bass. I think the tube weighs like 10 pounds...nothing.

Remove the spare tire, and replace it with a custom made box. It is expensive, but you're not on a budget anyway. Use fiberglass. The weight you saved from removing the spare tire will equal the sub plus the box, and you will still get the full trunk space. But make sure whoever that will build the box for you knows what he/she is doing.

I think one 10" Kicker Solobaric L7 is running off a 500 watt amp is good enough, thats what i have in my hatchback and it bumps pretty hard, im not saying it'll break windows or anything but trust me your ears will start to hurt after awhile, and the type of box you use depends on the sub you use different subs work better with certain boxes but in general a sealed box handles more power and hits harder but a band pass box creates deeper bass. I think your best bet for a single sub setup would be either a solobaric or W6 with a PPI amp, PPI amps are the **** but they suck up your battery because they draw a lot of power
