Default Headunit Choices

hey there, i'm interested in the Alpine CDA-9856... just wondering if there were any better recommendations for a budget less than $250 for a head unit. Also if any comments on quality of the unit whether it being good or bad. Thanks

I have a 9856. Only complaint about it is that I can't change the color of the buttons. It's a good solid unit and if you have and Ipod it's even better. For the amount of money you are looking to spend it is the right unit for you. just ask yourself what features you want your HU to have.

For the money, it's a very good entry level HU, full of useful features... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/p...-9856 94

Kenwood excelon Kdcx590 is a MUCH better unit imo as far as featureset goes. Something nice about being able to control your crossovers from your hu

Not really. Any pioneer unit means he could get a 1997 base model $ 100 radio and be good. Not true. Best to leave yourself expansion room down the road whether you plan on using it or not.

I doubt you can find a 1997 model today. Common sense also tells me he meant a newer, current model of Pioneer.

It was a hypothetical situation, but my point is still valid.

Any pioneer also includes a deh3800mp which, imo is a shitty entry level radio.
