does this amp make a good pair with this sub?
i was wondering what amp would pair up good with a Alpine SWR-1542D type r 15'' sub. i want to get an Alpine amp but they dont have one that matches good to the sub. i was thinking the Alpine MRP-M1000 @ 1000 watts RMS@2 ohms, but that may be a bit too much power for the sub. maybe a Kenwood KAC-9104D @ 900 watts RMS@ 2 ohms? or a JBL GTO7001 @ 700 watts RMS@ 2 ohms? any other suggestions to a good amp for this sub? i will have a Rockford Fosgate 2F capacitor for the system as well.
i am also worried that it may not fit in my trunk. i have 16 1/2''-17'' to work with in height,im good in width and depth. will it fit in a custom box? the cutout diameter only needs to be about 14''(13 13/16'') for the 15'' type r sub. what do you guys think?
much appreciate any help. thanks

The Alpine amp MRP-M1000 will be fine, "it's better to be over-powered then under-powered" just do not turn the amps gain all the way up.

sweet, thanks. do you think a 4G wire from the battery to the cap/amp will be enough?
i hope the sub will fit in my trunk without too much hassle.

fo with atleast 2 guage. IMO you should do 1/0. 1000w rms is alot of draw on an electrical system. you should do your big3 also if you havent allready.
Actually a 4 Ga. is recommended. The price difference is not much from 4 to 0/1 so go that way. Allows room for improvements. The box will fit with little trouble. Specs to know:
# Displacement: 0.123 cu. ft. (Front Mount)
# • Mounting Diameter: 349 mm (13.8'')
# • Mounting Depth: 234 mm (9.2'')
And you are looking at 1.75 cu ft total. So go here and figure out the dimensions needed http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp

4 gauge is min. not recommended lol. id go 2 ga. for power/ground. and 4 ga for big3 minimum. remember the less resistence= the less voltage drops. oh and id loose the cap. look into a batcap or mabey a kinetic hc600. just my $.02
Yes it is. lol. Have you read the Alpine manual? No. And the capacitor should work just fine, and further power upgrades are always ok.

You should definitely "beef up" the batt. to chassis and chassis to motor grounds, at the very least the batt. to chassis ground, I see no point in upgrading the alt. to batt. charge line unless you are upgrading the alt., although it can't hurt anything.
The box should be no problem, recommended "optimum" sealed box is only 1.025cuft net, add the subs displacement, [front mount] of .123cuft and you have 1.148cuft gross, that's a pretty small box for a 15" sub, even the vented box is only 2.25cuft net.

yeah, i was just worried about the height of the sub/box since i only have 16.5''-17'' to work with in height. that link to figure out the box dimensions is sweet.

The PDX provides much cleaner, more accurate power than the MRP models. It's well worth the extra funds. Personally, I favor JL Audio over any other brand.
