basically (stolen knowledge from http://www.crutchfield.com 's picking a sub box guide),

Sealed box gives tight clean low bass....however usually requires more power.

Ported gives a better punch, while still letting some higher frequencies through

Bandpass is very 'boomy' as it gives all the frequencies all together, uses less power to create a bigger 'boom' but it's not really sound quality.

a bandpass will only work good in a hb or something do not put it in a trunck..... bandpass can soud pretty good if build right.... they play a smaller range of hz but it will play them louder with less power.... if u buy a bandpass u need to get it custom made buy a good installer... DO NOT buy 1 of those premade onse....... also a well made ported box will sound great and be just as loud...... do u have a 12" yet if not i can get u a sweat deal on 1 and give u a sweat box for it....

if you like that boomy sound.. but dont care much about actual sound quality.. you just want a lot of boomy sound/bass then get a bandpass.. it requires less power than a sub in a sealed box..

if you want tighter/cleaner bass then get it in a sealed box.. i think it sounds better this way..

Bandpasses suck. They are too hard to build right and you can't hear the subwoofer distort or bottom out. They are nicknamed "one note wonders" with the peak at upper bass region. Go with sealed.
