Default Amp/Sub cuts out + picures

Well its all set up. Inifinity kappa perfect 10 powered by the ref 611a.

First of all on the amp there is 4 speaker out puts (2 negitive, 2 positive) if i have my sup connected to only 2 of them (of course) is my sub getting the full power of the amp?

also if i turn my head unit up past 25 (before i had the sub the loudest i would turn it up would be around 35) the clip light comes on the amp shuts off power to the sub. What is causing this? and how can i set my amp so that i would be able to play my 4 other 6.5" speakers all the way to 35 (after that they get distorted)?

This is my first instal (first car for that matter) and i did it all myself. Ill post pictures tomorrow.

Yes the sub is getting the full power the other pos.(+) and neg.(-) speaker terminals are just to make it easier to wire a second sub, it is just a parallel output from you mono, [one channel sub amp].
What model of Kappa Perfect 10" the 10CVQ, a 400W DVC 4 ohm or the 10VQ, a 400W SVC 4 ohm?
What HU are you using?
Are the four 6.5" speakers running of the HU or an off board amp?

The amps clipping light is coming on because the amp is being driven into clipping, or it is "seeing" a short, or a very low impedance load, because you have only the one sub, the impedance can't be any lower then 2 ohm, the amp makes 657W RMS is to a 2 ohm load, well overpowered for the 400W sub, I would be concerned that the subs VCs, [10DVQ] or VC. [10VQ] has been damaged, by the clipping amp.
Another possibility is that if it is a 10DVQ, The VCs are wired in series fo an 8 ohm load, amp only makes about 225W RMS into an 8 ohm load and you are just over driving the amp into clipping, to get some volume out of it.
Another thing that could be wrong is that the amp is not getting the current it needs because of poor grounding, [where and how is the amp grounded. how long is the ground cable, and what gauge is the cable?
Or it may be a problem on the post.(+) side, poor power connections, defective fuse, what gauge is the power cable, and what kind of fuse are you using on the power cable? 94

I have a 2 gauge power cable, and 4 gauge ground. my sub is the 10.1 350w rms 1400 peak.

My Hu is the JVC kd-g320, and the speakers are running off the HU.

the sub is 4 ohm.

I have a 200amp ANL fust 10 inches from my battery terminal.

The ground is a little bit ghetto, its connected to where my spare tire sits in my trunk. it is bare metal... its about 2 feet long cable.

Oh yeah and thanks fcm you know lots of stuff about this. so far you have answered pretty much all my questions.

well i ran out of 2 gauge wire or i would have used that. The amp only needs 4 gauge for power so i figured it wouldn't hurt as a ground.

the 200 A fuse ? thats what i heard to get....

I think he meant why a 2 gauge when only a 4ga was needed, [for power] but anyway, the first thing I would check is the ground, it needs to be shorter, [24" is too long] and I would move it to a seat belt bolt, or other bolt that goes into the floor pan of the car.
What kind of box is the sub in, is it to speck?
At 4 ohms the amp is still a little over powered for the sub but that's OK, it's not going to cause the amp to go into clipping, unless the subs VC is damaged, shorting out at it's "Xmax".

What is the amps gain set at? 94

The seat belt bolt is a good idea (i'll switch it). The box is to speck its sealed .60 ft^3

Here is some pics

hold on i'll get them working in a sec

The amp, i don't know if you can see the settings but the input level is just a little bit pased half.

Are you ******* kidding me??? When you said that it was "a little ghetto" I didn't think about anything like that....

That is a totally inadequate ground... . Just because that washer is bare metal doesn't mean that the place that bolt hooks to on the floor pan is...

I'd be willing to bet that's 100% your problem...

i use that same place but i use the hole that the bolt goes into because my JL ground wire came with a bolt that fits perfectly into it

u should do the same
but first sand off the paint to get to bare metal

It's not best but it'll work better than where you've got it...

Well at least we know that ground is not the problem, [I disagree with B18C_EJ8 about the ground, I can't think of anything that is better then a seat belt or seat bolt for a ground, but that debate will rage on].

Can you borrow another sub and try it on the system to eliminate the sub as the problem? 94

I could try, or just return it for a new one... but why would the sub be causing it to cut out? It is loud and it seems to work fine so far. Could it be defective?

Yes it can, it could be a simple as the subs tinsel wires touching each other as speaker approaches Xmax, [in or out]. 94

^^ have any of you guys noticed the overrated power Infinity rates their amps at?

I constantly saw that the Infinity Reference amps, always seemed to put out soo much less power when powering an under sub rated no where near the RMS rating of the amp.

I've seen this constantly at CC and I always recommended them upgrade to a Kicker or MTX, but maybe it's just my experience
