From Dirty to FILTHY
Thank you!
Small update: So it's been a long time coming, but I've finally decided I'm going to pull the motor and have someone rebuild it for me. There's just way too much involved in building a motor that I would screw something up.
Fortunately, a guy just moved up to the area from Fla and is a highly respected builder/tuner specializing in Hondas. Perfect!
I've already started disconnecting things. This saturday, I should have the motor pulled and hopefully to the builder. Wish me luck.
Goal: Finish this damn thing before winter so I don't have to keep my daily outside all winter

Thanks folks!
Motor is pulled and off to the builder. While dropping the motor off, the builder noticed a lot of my valvetrain was out of spec.... He offered to rebuild the head to proper spec..not sure if I can bite that bullet yet. Just sad how badly these last 2 builders have effed me.
I'm near Youngstown, by the PA line...so other side of the state! lol

i would prob try and get the head rebuild for the piece of mind, but of course that hard to do if you dont have the funds. good luck with which route you decide to go with.
I'm going to have him build the bottom end and get that back first. If he finds no other hidden costs in the bottom end (oversized bearings, bores out of whack, new rings etc..) I would REALLY like to have him do the head. I'm sure I'd lose a good bit of power if my valves arent acting like they should.
Buddy dropped off my head for me yesterday. Going to have the entire longblock assembled by this guy. He's also going to check all the clearances in the head and last the valves for me.
The thought of having a running car and having a local tuner is exciting!

Well, just keeping tabs:
Motor is rebuilt. Turns out a lot was off with this last build. Even if it were timed properly, my builder wasn't sure how long it would have lasted.
Valve clearances were way too much.
Bores were too tight
Rod bearing clearances were too tight
GREAT!
Anyways, he re-bored and re-honed the motor. Went through the head and got that up to spec, and he also ported and shimmed my oil pump for me!
Last weekend we got the motor in. Now I just have to finish bolting everything back up, then get a re-tune!

You have no idea! It's been a long, painful process. 3 builders, and almost 2 years now.
It was supposed to be done and rolling last summer (before it broke), since I had a baby on the way. Since it broke, it's been MUCH harder finding the time or the finances for the build. Slowly but surely!

FILTHY D V2.0
Instead of making a new thread, I'm just adding to this one.
Quick update:
Original Vitara motor was built wrong, cracked 2 pistons.
Had new Vitara motor built
Motor is in, now just buttoning things up.
Now onto the show:

Having some fitment issues with my return line. Hopefully I can resolve this little hangup quickly and with minimal work

HEYYYYYYYYYYYY GIRRRRRRRRRRRRL!!!

Everything from the motor back is done. Still needs:
Axles
Radiator
Exhaust
And a few other little things. Then it's off to get tuned.
Wish me luck, and THANK YOU for checking in

How's your D holding up?
Went out for an hour after the baby went to bed. Finished a few sensors, put on the oil filter, put the serp. belt on, Mocked up the cold side piping.
Wanted to put the valve cover on, but my buddy had to get me a new tube of HondaBond, because mine is solid as a rock lol. Needless to say, I need to go pick it up.
Looks like I finally get to bring the radiator out of my shed!
As the car sits:
Axles installed
Valve cover installed
Catch can done
Clutch is bled
Radiator and lines are connected and filled
Trans has oil
Few pics from last week (not up to date):

Greg @ Go-Autoworks is going to get me what I need for my return line. I have to mock it up, pull the pan, drill & weld the fitting and re-install.
After that, finish putting exhaust on, add oil, and start it up!

The car will be tuned by the guy who built the motor, Tom Sewell. He came up to NE Ohio last year after being in Fla. He's earned a name for himself already here.
Following this thread helped me pass time at work and has made my night. With most builds, even the most particular ones there always seem to be a lot of setbacks. Keep up the good work!
If you need to kill more time, take a look at my original build in the OP.
