Sorry fellas, didn't know this thread had moved!! I figured it was dead lol.

From my other thread

So the motor is still in the car, with all 4 rods and pistons removed.

I'm also running 75.5mm pistons. Looking to get somewhere between 350 and 400whp with no more than 20psi on pump.

We also did a hone with a hand drill just to clean up the bores a little.

So that's my situation, as shitty as it is
The setup maybe had 200 miles before it started smoking
Got some new vitaras (with teflon coated skirts). They had been on backorder for forever until after SEMA. I'm thinking about just checking my ring gap and just putting them on the crank. I know it sounds lazy, but I don't see my bearing clearances needed touched up at all.

Also got some new goodies to keep'er runnin as cool as possible.

I'll try and keep updating as this goes! Thanks for the support guys.

Slowmotion was OK I guess. I was practically standing around for an hour before anyone would even help me, AND I had an appointment. They are super busy, and have grown past modding JUST Hondas. But there are only 2 people in Ohio that I trust to tune that car, and one was Cory. Josh@Slowmo was also SUPER helpful throughout the build process. I would have thought Cory would have caught the timing/boost issue since he's tuned SOO many Hondas, but I can't blame him for not noticing. I will be going back there this spring (provided it runs!), and getting a retune with some new numbers!

Hoping for 330whp+......We shall see.

These are pics of the #1 and #2 pistons...Both cracked

New guys

This looks MUCH better

Got a Bisi filtered Sandwich adapter. Not sure exactly how it works, but it's quite different from the Blox one. Plus, when Precision took my turbo apart to check it out, there was quite a bit of debris Thank you Precision for throwing me a bone and fixing that up for me.

Used Go-Autoworks "Large" FMIC. Painted black

Got this fitting with the AN port machined into the flange, instead of having a threaded connection there. This is to try and get my drainback as HIGH as possible, since I have little room.

Here's how she looked right before it started smoking like a freight train

so what pistons are those with cracked ringlands at only 270whp?

I like your car, it's simple and clean.
You didn't go too overboard on any area & it's a balanced budget build.

Your buddies rims on that camero are killer nice.

The Vitaras have held 400+whp with no issues. I believe cracking was due to his builder

They are standard Vitara 75.5mm Pistons.
Thanks a lot!
His Camaro is ground up beautiful. Every sway bar, stiffener possible. C5 Z06 brakes. CCWs....Procharged small block. One of the nastiest cars around.

Head was torn down and checked. Replaced valve guides and reassembled.

Had local shop do all of the work and reassemble complete longblock.

When tearing motor apart, found out that when head was at TDC, crank was at 1:00 or so....so mechanical timing was quite a bit off. I'm really surprised I didn't throw some insane fireballs since I'm sure the fuel wasn't burning properly.

So now I have to check my ring gap, and reassemble. Going to skip Plastigage. Thoughts? I'm just assuming nothing other than the pistons cracking went wrong.

I'd plastigauge just to be safe, who knows what else the builder messed up. Is the builder compensating you at all?

Ahhh some D-series love! Just jaw dropping, so damn clean.

By the way, those brake lines, can you bend them the way you want to?

Ongoing battle. He said she said.

Thanks. Ya, it's just mild steel, so you can bend it by hand if needed (that's what we did on the interior). Takes some finesse and skill to make the bay ones though.
If you go with Stainless, you will have a little more trouble.

Great work! Sucks about the pistons. I know after all that hard work, this was the last thing you wanted to happen. I also know it's a lot easier to just do it and get it done, been there, but don't. Don't skip on anything. Use the plastigauge and make sure everything is up to par. You don't want to do this again do you? It's now in your hand and only you, can mess this up now.

GOOD LUCK!

I'll post the update as the new father is busy doing "new kid stuff"....like a fgt. <3

New pistons are ready to go in with rings properly gapped to .20, but the new ACL rod bearings aren't as thick as the non ACL bearings that were in it and it caused us to stop and email GO-Autoworks ( no reply in about 10 days) and some other company (maybe FJ) who also has not replied. So we arent going further until we get the narrow bearing issue resolved.

Other then that, we rewired gauges and properly put dash and everything back together in the interior just waiting to start the car and get it running to start cutting out all the extra wires from the wire tuck out and assure none of it is needed.

Hope the car is back together within a few weeks as I will be tearing down my Volkswagen to freshen up my bay and add a few extra HPs to assure this Honda remains in my rearview.

Rings are Gapped:
1 - .020
2 - .021

Jury is out on the bearings at the moment. I've E-mailed King in hopes of just replacing what was in there and give up on the ACL's.

It appears as if FJ is shut down. Phone is disconnected, and no E-mail replies.

This will be the second time the ARP rod bolts have been torqued. Can I just snug them down then torque to the required ft-lb, or do I have to stage torque it?

Thanks for all the love guys. Hoping this doesn't drag out too much longer

I'm pretty sure they stretch once torqued. FJ is shutdown unfortunately, thieves stole a lot of inventory is what I've heard.

******** lol

Yea, having a baby puts ALL of your free time in the *******. Wouldn't trade it though.

I ordered both kinds of King Bearings from Summit. Just need a day and a helping hand and the motor should be back together!

Sad to hear about FJ....Wish they would bounce back, or at least keep lines of communication open.

My #2 vitara cracked in the same fashion, except the timing wasn't off to my knowledge. I cracked it so bad the 2nd ring was in half, with 6 pieces of ringland that just fell out.

I was at 310whp, might have gotten bad gas or something? Either way, I switched to these new teflon coated ones and been running good for the past 500 miles (knock on wood)
