Default suggestions on set up b16 or ls/vtec

well ive been doing some saving and want to get started already but woudnt hurt to get some suggestions,
1st the shell its a 91 civic si
2- i want it to be reliable, pretty much a daily driver
3- i currently have b16a (obd-0 with b16 cable trans.)complete, ready to go in the shell. I also have a spare b18a bottom end and a spare ls tranny
4-budget about 2k
5- where i want to be- low 14's but target is 13's

im hesitating keeping the b16a bcause b16a's are old motors dont think it would last and run perfect.
but at the same time with 2k on the ls vtec will it be reliable enough?
the ls vtec i would like it to be in the 11's compression ratio , new internals on the b16 head (omni power) itr cams and fully balanced bottom end

or should i just go with the b16 and add build it with the 2k budget?

im open minded just wanna kno any suggestions, recomendations, and some help...thanks

I say keep the b16a in there for now, and just rebuild the Ls block with P30's. With the extra money, valvetrain n something to tune with.

Hopefully your not serious about that^ I have a 1st gen also and I had it for about 5 years now it hasn't given me any problems. I only do the maintenance and it runs great. I'm also building a lsvtec since I graduate from school, but I think 2K might not be enough. If you keep the head stock then you might be able to do it. You really don't want to limit your funds when you are building a motor because then you start to cut corners. Good luck!

I think the ls/vtec will be a killer setup in that chassis, if you build a ls/vtec it will rip no if's and's or but's! Don't get me wrong, i have a b16, and in my heavy 94 si, i ran a 14.4 @ 98mph, now i think i can hit a high 13 with any 60 foot better than the 2.3's i was hitting, but for the money, the Hp and tq you can get from the ls/vtec is unmatched.
