ok my uncle has a G2 legend with about 180,000 miles and a brand new jdm legend motor. the trans was kept the same...ok the problem is when he goes about 3mph and up the car thumps and shakes so bad that he cant drive it.

ive heard rumors about it being axles, diffs or trans...can any1 give me a certain answer

he has all new brakes and new tires so it cant be those. the noise just happened a few days ago and he drive it home immidiatly...could it be motor mounts?

There isn't a problem with the transmissions, and especially after that many miles, you are going to start seeing some wear (depending on how the car has been driven over the years).

But as far as problems with the transmissions, there arent any. There isnt a problem with the axles, or the differential. I would do a fluid flush on the transmission, check your cv boots, and make sure the diff fluid is still good.

Also, you didnt say if the transmission was a manual or auto.

Even if you replace parts, they can always be a problem. he could have gotten warped rotors, or the wheels could have not been balanced correctly after he got new tires put on. Do not rule out anything with 180,000 on the car. But major design flaws are nowhere to be found on the legend drivetrain.

yeh its a manual....i mean he was driving 1 day and it just started out of nowhere. the car isnt driveable right now

they could have not attached the flywheel correctly, or the clutch/pressure plate/shift fork parts.

i say just take it back to the shop that did it. if they screwed something up, they have to fix it

yeh...i wanna know how to check **** out myself so that i dont have it towed to shop and then its an easy fix...waste of money.

oh yeh the cars basically mine if i fix it since my uncle is in jail lol. and if it matters any it has a 125 shot of nitrous on it

unless you want to pull the transmission yourself, its kind of hard to check it. you could pull the inspection plate off, but with the pressure plate still bolted to the flywheel, you will have some trouble seeing if anything is loose.

Sounds to me like something loosened up in the clutch area. Pull it apart and check it.

damn if i only knew how to work on a legend lol. i mean it goes into every gear and holds. and the noise only happens when moving forward or reverse

I had to get a new tranny in my g1legend a few years ago. Legend sux. Also, it makes a raddling noise when accelerated for some reason...

The 2nd gen legend has a problem with the rear tranny mount breaking. I would check that before I sent it anywhere and spent money on it.

The mounts are about $120 from honda. I've also heard about some people taking them off and filling them with polyeurothane but I'm not sure how well that would work. I'm going to try it so I'll let you know eventually...

so you blame the entire car because you had a little rattle when you accelerated.

probably an easy fix too

Have you tried the polyeurothane mix? I've heard it woks pretty well, so I'm going to try it and if it doesn't work I guess I'll just go and order one from Honda.

To the guy that started the post...you obviously dont have a clue what your doing or where to begin, so have it towed to that shop and have it fixed...its just common sense man.

The ones talking about polyurathane mounting...go read up on what it is, then read your posts again...lol.

Well I don't have the slightest clue on what it could be. There's almost a whistling noise that goes with it. I know im uneducated on the car but it's really strange....

check the fluid in the differential...alot of people forget these cars have a seperate differential from the transmission, if its not filled it will go a while and then blow up, i know from personal experience, my diff went 49,xxx miles before it blew up from not having any fluid in it thanks to the shop that replaced my trans fluid and drained my diff in stead, it didnt stop the car it just blew a hole in the side of the diff spit some metal out and made a **** *** noise while i drove, but it still drove well enough to get me to the shop another 20 miles after i got home.

I had the same problem after I had my jdm enigne swapped. I had the shop that installed the swap look it over a couple times, but could only tell me, that to possible swap out the axles. Oh well I lasted a couple months before I got rid of her and got me a civic hatch

hey guys,
i'm experiencing the same problems with my G2 legend, however mine is an automatic.
mine is also not drivable right. but here is a quick rundown of what i noticed.

-loud whistling sound leading up to the thumping feel.
-leaking fluid from the driver side of the transmission...it was dark in color so i'm not sure if it was transmission fluid. ( on the last day...the fluid was flowing instead of the usual occasional drip)
-car lacked the usual quick and powerful pickup the weeks leading up to thisproblem.

i took the car to a mechanic and he said he couldnt find the problem or more like he didnt wonna bother pulling it apart. he did agree however with rangerjoe....he said the legend drivetrain is known among mechanics as flawless. and he doubted that was the problem. also as much as i do need CV boosts it wasnt the problem either. he suggested i take it to a specialist...ie. the dealership...but i really dont feel like taking it up the rear end right now....so i'm seeking a more cost effective way to handle the problem.

i'm just curious, has anyone actually found out what the problem is...or could lead me in the right direction ...please.....i will take it to the mechanic to get it fixed but i dont want to pay them to take the car apart and find the problem...costs too much.

legends have a pinion shaft that goes from the transmission to the differential. some times the splines wear out, or it could just be the differential.

Yeah, i work at an acura dealership and legends are for the most part bullet proof. I would definately check out the pinion shaft as daveedd357 pointed out. Those can definately make one hell of a noise. Good luck
