Passport owners - feedback welcomed.
Just wondering how some of you passport owners feel about the vehicle. I figured it's a Honda so it's got to be pretty good. Any problem areas that are chronic with a 2001 model? I'm currently in the market for an SUV and I think I might have found a nice used one. Thanks! May have some followup questions too if that's o.k.?

Run far far away!!! The Passport is not really a Honda, it's a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo. The quality is awful. We leased one for 2 years and I could not wait to get rid of it, as it had all kinds of issues. Though I will say, the engine ran fairly strong, it was just everything around it that fell apart.

Look in this room, theres like 5 threads about passports in here. Honestly, my personal opinion, walk right past the Passport and go look at 1996-2000 Toyota 4-Runners...more poweful engine, more towing capacity, more ground clearance, more room inside, more luxury...MORE MORE MORE. Its just a better SUV for the money...the Passport is both lackluster and generic.

Well, the mods can lock this thread if they want. I'm no longer interested in them. I test drove one today that had just come out of the service department being checked out. Yet when I drove it, the brake pedal sounded like it was rubbing up against something and I could hear a squeal in the brakes...What a piece of crap...
May check out some CRV's perhaps.

Im telling you man, if your looking for an SUV that gets decent gas mileage and offers all the utility that you would need, plus a good bit of luxury as well, you cant hardly beat the 4-Runners after 1996...and the engines in them are damn near bullet proof.

I've actually known about that for quite awhile. They go fast off the lots. Haven't found a good used one yet that isn't 20K or more...

Well move to the cheaper end of the trailer park, and keep renting out your wife and them you might be able to afford a used SUV. Must suck to not have a new vehicle....ahahahahaaaaaaaaa.

wtf was that all about?
...anyways, 1996-1998 4-Runners can be found typically easily for $11,000-$14,000 depending on mileage, i recommend the V6 Ltd. trim line, not the SR5.

Damn. That's kind of high for that old of a vehicle. I mean, even if it had only 15000 miles on it, I don't think it would be that much due to the age of the vehicle... I appreciate the info though...

The age of the vehicle and the price are not common...that generation 4-Runner is VERY sought after and still retains is price well...for instance, i bought a 1996 4-Runner Ltd. 4x4 for $10,200 from my brother's lot he manages, had it for about a year or so, then turned around, got it totally detailed and tuned up and sold it for $11,000...i got the tuning and detail free, and simply put it in Autotrader with 110,000 on the odometer, first day i got a call from a guy with cash ready to buy, purchased it next day and i made $800 over what i bought it for. The 3.4litre 4-runners are extremely well rounded and good trucks, interior is nice (leather, power everything, cd player)...they have alot of amenities...and they are certainly still worth the price...but i can understand your view of it, most cars arnt in the situation this is.
Its kind of like the E36 M3's out there...you can find the 1998-1999's for $18,000-$22,000 still, and thats over 5 years old now! Some cars depriciate worse than others, the 4-Runner seems to hold its value very well and people that own them know what they have...also keep in mind thats top of the line, the botton line SR5 model you can get for $5,000-$7,000 easy. But i wouldnt recommend those.

For one, most of them were 4cyl. and rwd only. The 4cyl. is a strong engine, but it just doesnt get that SUV moving like one would expect. It doesnt offer some of the amenities as it was considered a "sport" model...so you get non-painted trim pieces and what not. It also didnt include the towing package which to me was important but may not effect you at all. Most of them didnt include a sunroof either, and if my car isnt a drop top, its gotta have a sunroof.
The 6cyl. version of the SR5 is a little better but still doesnt have some of the nicer things the Ltd. offers, mainly painted trim and running boards...also, smaller wheels and tires, choppier ride because of the springs (most 6cyl. Ltd's were sporting the TRD springs that were found on the Tacoma Pre-Runners)...you also lose leather, which to me is a MUST have in a luxury car or SUV, the cloth in the 4-Runners is lack luster in my opinion.
The Ltd. 6cyl. 4-Runners gave you 4x4, power everything, sunroof, TRD suspension componants, ECT (transmission controller for offroad use), push button overdrive, full leather, high quality wood grain and just a ton of little things here and there that make it worth the extra few thousand dollars.
Bottom line...SR5 is a good cheap little SUV, but it doesnt hold a candle to the Ltd. 6cyl.

He is white trash, I was simply giving him sound financial advice that would allow him to continue to play the lottery, and smoke GPC's while buying a vehicle.
