Try taking it to the dealership.

Also it's not easy to diagnose problems when you give no information as to the scenario from which the problem stemmed.

I would start with the basics like checking oil, spark plugs, fuel pressures, etc...hopefully it's something simple like one of those problems

I don't know, have you checked for spark? Or checked your timing?

need real information to try to figure this out.

hitting the rev limiter and misfiring never felt the same to me, describe exactly what happens, when it does it, what the conditions are, etc.

So this problem just happened one day out of the blue?

If so I'd change your cap, rotor, and plugs while you're at it. Might as well change it all at once.

well it does not do it all the time, very spuratic. at 7100 rpm the engine gets weak, like its cutting in and out. everything is fine up until that point though, nothing at low rpm's. i guess imma take it to the dealer and stop messing around, i was just looking for a little guidance.

Change your cap, rotor and plugs and see if that helps anything.

check the timing, get a gun and take a look.
maybe the valves are outta wack- or the cams were ground flat?
make sure the TB is open and clear.
what kinda intake do you have, is it working and clean?
does it happen while in gear and in nutreul too?
Do you have any kinda exhaust, is it in working condition? not bottomed out ?
Just ask yourself the common sense questions.
also does you gas cap fit well?

everything on the car is stock, could possibly be a problem with the valves, the previous owner had some valves replaced because he bent some over-revving

Get the exhaust checked out, sounds sort of like a cat problem.

not to me. someone already mentioned this but check your oil. If your oil is low vtec will cut in and out due to the lack of oil pressure. The next thing i would check is your plugs for sure, i had bad plugs in my car at one point and i was getting all sorts of missfireing. from the breif description it sounds like ignition or fuel which doesnt exactly narrow it down to anything speciffic just keep checking things.

You may have a midget stuck in the timing belt.

ITR 21 put it the best, check your oil...vtech runs off of oil pressure, if you were going up hill or around a corner it would cause you car to have a bog feeling and climb out of vtech....check you cap and rotor also..and plugs..what i would suggest is that you check the oil first, its sounds like a oil problem...

Sounds like crank position sensor, my car did the same. After replacing the sensor and resetting the ECU the car has been fine ever since.
