I'm supprised how many people think 100mph is fast. If you think thats fast, you should take a ride in a 40 year old mustang at speed. THATS scarry...

I've never gone more than 110mph in any car that I was driving - and I've never been above 105mph in my ITR - on a flat as hell highway in either Iowa or Indiana (or maybe Tennessee, i cant' remember) VERY few times - once or twice.
One more time - You all are insane.</TD></TR></TABLE>
So what has been your highest speed on a track? I hope more then 105
I have hit 122-125 at LRP

Re: (jond)
100mph doesn't feel so fast - I just dont feel comfortable around here going any faster. I rarely go that fast - imo, 90mph on an interstate near chicago (or name another big city) is fast enough and in most cases, dangerous (due to the other drivers around you). On long roadtrips, I cruise at 85mph or so, but not much faster than that. (and still get 30+mph in the R!)
Anyways... I agree - older cars at speed are scary. A 996 carrera at 115mph in the desert feels slow.
Chris - who doesn't want to deal with the consequences of high speed runs, nor the uncertainty of what might happen in the event of some kind of mechanical 'issue' or debris in the road.....

That video makes me hold my breath. I love speed, untill it reaches a certain point on a city road and then it is just too scarry for my tatse </TD></TR></TABLE>
In fact, my tach indicates 260km/h on the tach... I had the video camera in the left hand and filmed from a 45 deg angle. If you look straight on the tach, the needle is upon the 260.

Re: Top Speed(er) (liquidscor00)
I've seen the speedo needle touch the "Y" in "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only"; tach needle was just across 8000. At that speed the air coming around the mirrors (I didn't fold them in) was buffetting the windows in that vortex and making an awful racket. Everyone knows how accurate ITR guages are, though... usually people question the tachometer. I've never hit the limiter in 5th - but I have in every other gear.
I agree with what was said above... 100mph isn't all that fast. That's where the VFR cruises in 6th gear... just out of VTEC engagement. Of course, 100mph is a lot more significant if your engine is screaming to get there... but if you're just cruising there - no big deal.
150ish in an ITR? Noisy, but not that scary.
150ish on a VFR? Ask me again, later... I'll find out, eventually.

Re: (Winslow)
250 km/h feels very stable on the autobahn. But it's better to do it when it's quiet on the road and on a road with good surface. Not every Autobahn is suitable IMO.

GK, you're forgetting about those perennial concepts (even in the Old Dominion) of due precess, trial by peers and innocent until proven guilty!
For those other/idealist enforcement concepts ... please refer to Mein K...

Re: (1GreyTeg)
I was looking for a top speed of 170-175 in my ITR.
Also, finally had a talk with respect to top speeds in an FV and whether they were rev or drad limited when using a long and short box.
He has some interesting comments wrt VIR and why the short box is generally used there in spite of the two long "straights".
Funny, those guys are happy with an additional 1/2 hp.

Re: (SpoonDC2R)
I pulled about 155 ( what the needle read) the same night, the picture shows 140 cause i let off the gas on a slight left on the highway. I've personally seen 155mph. The car was pretty stable with the USDM front end but it felt more stable with the Jap Spec on there.
i was basically at redline.
