Default overheating...

Well i'm kinda curious....My car overheatd the other day, and the weird thing is that usually when it does i turn on the heater and turn it all the way up and my temp will go down. For some odd reason, the other day it didn't. When I did that my temp climbed. Then when i turned off my heater it when down again, but it just kept on jumping up and then going down again. So I'm just kinda curious what it might be. I took out my thermostat and drove my car, and my temp didn't even move...it stayed all the way on the bottom like it wasn't reading the temp at all...any suggestions? should my temp gauge be able to read w/o the thermostat? thanks...

Running ur car without a thermo isnt the best idea. Replace it with a OEM one. Then after u do that drain all the old fluid out. Replace it with OEM FLUID. Do you even know if your fans turn on?

If you take the thermostat out, the water is constantly cycling through the block and radiator. It never gets a chance to get hot, so the reading is actually accurate. Replace your thermostat, burp the system, and see if it still gets hot. You could have a pressure leak somewhere.

Word, and if its not your thermostat, which it most likely is, then your gauge could be Fed up....I advice you get it figured out before you do too much driving man. Also, make sure your fans are turning on...

I don't get why you took out the t-stat? They're a $15 part. Put in a new one, and like others have said, you should be good to go.
