JDM SRS Wheel.....
Ok i searched found the install for a JDM SRS Wheel on a non R. Does anybody have a write up for the jdm steering wheel to be installed on a 2001 R. My main concern is the wiring, I would hate to assume that all the wiring is long enough and the connectors are the same.
Secondly, Why did the black clips need to be broken away from the brass thing inside the clock spring. That wasn't clear to me.
Thanks in advance.

The SRS plug plugs right in. Horn plugs right in. The reason why you need to break the black tabs on the cable reel is to allow the horn/SRS wiring to free spin independently of the turn signal canceler (brass thing). Since the location of the hole in the hub of the JDM wheel for the horn/SRS wires in at 6 o'clock instead of 4 o'clock (USDM), the cable reel needs to turn clockwise a little to feed the wires through. You can't do this without breaking the tabs.
I just installed my wheel a couple of weeks ago.

I found a great how-to write up a few months back, by "BLacK FirE" - it had tons of pix in it. I picked up a JDM SRS wheel recently, and was really hesitant to do the work myself, because of the airbag going off, etc.
Someone else had posted a full Acura service manual, and so I read up on a few areas in there regarding the airbags, and figured that if these are the directions that factory techs are using, there's no reason they wouldn't work for me.
So, I went for it (mainly to save $$$ on the install!), and it worked just fine. I broke the black plastic clips, so as to align the wheel with the mount correctly, and the airbag never blew up, my turn signals still cancel by themselves, and the horn works fine, and the SRS light on the dash does not stay lit.
This was on a '98 ITR, so it should be similar. I searched quickly and couldn't find this write up on the site, but I did save it as a PDF, so if you want the write up, just PM me with your email address and I can send it over.

Patience, and no SWED worked for me.
