Will i have any problems after overheating/leaking coolant?? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As the story goes, i checked out a car a couple days ago. Seemed okay ran well and didnt show any leaks. I decided to put a deposit and i picked it up today after giving it another test drive. It checked out okay, but after 10 mins of driving the i noticed that the temperature gauge was slowly climbing and reached red.
Immediately i would pull to the side and park the car, and i checked the coolant and there was none!!!! Luckily i was near a parts store so i walked and picked up 2 big jugs of coolant. I filled it up, and noticed that coolant was leaking so i immediately jumped in and proceeded to drive home, untill the temp gauge again reached the red. I again pulled over, refilled it and made it home without it reaching red.
Would the temperature reaching this high have any serious effects on the engine? It Currently has 300,000kms which is equal to 190,000 miles. The coolant seems to be leeaking from the crank area so i assume its a bad water pump? It was dripping alot and i would have to refill after 10 mins of driving.

most HT members are gonna say search...so search.
from what I learned, overheating can damaged the cylinder head or block by warping it.
here are some possible issues:
- bad radiator cap? Replace.
- bad water pump? Replace.
- air in the engine? Bleed the air out of the engine.
- bad fan switch? are the fans turning on when it overheats?
- thermostat not opening? Replace or test if it's opening.
- Bad head gasket? replace with a new 3-metal-layer headgasket and check if the block or head is warped.
other HT members can clarify better then me.
those are a few of the issues that come to mind. Good luck on fixing the Integra.

What are the effects of having a warped head/block?
Couldnt you get something like a copper head gasket and seal it?
Im hoping its done no harm to the engine

Re: (mystikalflip)
I've never dealt with a warped head before but from what I was told from others, it'll cause overheating and have coolant and oil mix.
but after thinking about it....I doubt you have a blown head gasket....check your dipstick and if it's milky, then you have a blown headgasket, meaning the oil and coolant, and possible gas, is mixing together in the head.
other HT members should know better and chime in....but your best bet is to search on your own and find out.

The car does burn a bit of oil.....
But if it is the water pump, would a substantial amount of coolant leak out of the weep hole continuously even if the motor is off??
