i have a '95 gsr and there are problems with the vtec. my friends sway it doesnt work and im starting to believe that. you can hear it engaging but you cant feel it. what could be wrong? it has aem cam gears and its not at top dead center. i believe the previous owner did some engine tuning. any help would be appreciated. thanks
If you can here the Vtec but it feels like you're not moving as fast, then the timing on the cam gears are definetely off. Have the timming adjusted to the correct position by someone who knows what they're doing. If you have a good exhaust (free flowing) you should feel the difference.

the timing is definitely off. i took the valve cover offf once to check why oil was leaking and viola cam gears and camshafts that were not at top dead center. so resetting the timine might help. will get rigth on that. thanks. any other suggestions because the previous owner must of knew what he/she was doing to change the timing... any help wanted and needed and is greatly appreaciated.

first off don't be a jerk about it.
second if you hear it engaging then it probably is. The Vtec DOES NOT throw you back in your seat, it is actaully kinda subtle, and even on my supercharged motor, which amplifies the affect VTEC has, you still can miss it kicking in if you don't pay attention.
IF you have an intake and quiet exhaust you should be able to hear it clearly in the sound coming from the intake. BUT if your exhaust is loud enough it will muffle out your intake noise.
