Default vtec

ok my vtec swap is acting up it seems to only work when it wants to. it kicks in at 4500 rpm which i've been told is too early but i have an ls tranny so i guess im better off. i dont have a knock sensor hooked up and i have read that vtec wont work with out this. mine works just once in a while. two vtec wires are hooked up could it be the coolant temp sensor?

A do not believe a coolant temp sensor can make the vtec not engage properly. You do need a knock sensor tho. Good luck!

What engine and ECU are you running? Include the year. Any CELs?
