trouble shooting O2 sensor....help
ok, i have been getting CEL light for a long time, sometimes it comes on in the morning, sometimes it doesnt. Usually will come on in the same place driving on the road everymorning leaving the house headed for school. If i shut the car off and restart its gone. I have read the codes the ECU throws out via the dashboard flashing light. It constistantly give a code 1. This is on an OBD-I car...94 LS with the one O2 sensor. I have visually inspected the plug and appears to be fine. it is plugged in and no wires are frayed or melted from heat.
My questions:
--How to test without a shop? I can use a multi meter if need be but what wires are checked and what am i looking for?
--If it is indeed an O2 sensor that has failed, which from what i have read is common, where can one be sourced? Please dont say only Honda dealership I will cry. Those guys are crazy expensive in this area.
--If not the O2 sensor then what?
TIA

do a search on yahoo or google on honda ecu codes. there are sites that will guide you thru it and tell you what code you are reading.
i know 1 wire o2 sensors go pretty cheap. the one that on your car now is a 4 wire one and those go about 200!!!

i know what the freakin codes are. What i need to find out is what wires to probe to test the O2 sensor to see if its faulty.

check for current. if you have a helms manual, that would tell you the what its supposed to put out. an air/fuel meter would tell you right away

well, since that is the eventual game plan to install an A/F meter once i get set up and ready for juice, it isnt worth doing it if the O2 sensor isnt even functional.

FYI if you need to order parts try >> http://www.ahmotor.com ... they usually have great prices on OEM parts. (click on "online catalog" or email)
