Toggle switch? Power cut-off? Help!!!
I hate my power antenna being up when I am using my cd player. My question is how can I make it so the antenna stays down when I use the cd player and goes up when I want to use the radio? I hardly ever use the radio, so I would even go as far as cutting the power cord to the antenna. But before I do that I was wondering if there was a wire that runs into the back of the head unit that I could unplug or tap in to to make a toggle switch. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I don't want to switch to the s2k antenna just yet....I am thinking of doing something custom w/ my rear winshield wiper fluid nozzle since I took my rear wiper off....has anyone done anything like this yet? or does anyone know how to keep the power antenna from going up?
I would recommend just installing an switch which controls (ie. ON or OFF) the power to antenna. All you need to do is locate the power antenna wire, which is yellow with a green stripe. The easiest way to do this is cut the wire near the wiring harness that connects to the back of the radio.
I mounted my switch in one of the blanks in the center console (see picture below).

im not sure... but i have a sony headunit, and when i first installed it i had the same problem. i was messing around with the wires in the back of the radio and notice i didnt connect one of the wires, so i wondered what it was. i found out that the wire actually had the antanae go down when i listen to cds and goes up for the radio.
i dont think this helps, but maybe if you have a aftermarket headunit this could be your problem.

im not sure of the color of the wire if u have a stock radio but all aftermarket wiring kits have a light blue wire for the power atenna. all u got to due is splice it and install a switch somewhere, really easy.
If the antenna goes up & down when you turn the stereo on & off, then the wiring is OK. My '95 factory stereo wasn't smart enough to put the antenna down when I played cassettes, that's just the way it was designed. The only thing you can do is put in a switch like somebody already suggested.
Its not OEM vs. aftermarket, its just whether they designed the stereo to be smart enough to know what source you're listening to. Many aftermarket stereos (like the one I've got now) put the antenna down when you play tape or CD, but they don't ALL do that. Some factory stereos do too, like my Saab. Its got nothing to do with whether you wired it up correctly.

Does anyone know what type of switch to get? I believe they have different amp ratings.
