Intake air temps would cause a motor to ping more than coolant temps, if any at all. If you're running at "40%" on the temperature range you SHOULD NOT have pinging, doesn't matter if you're running higher compression. There's plenty of high compression motors running stock t-stat with no pinging. G'luck on findind out your problem

that's not true. ping or knock is high cylinder temps caused but too far advanced timing,low octane fuel, or really warm intake air which can all occur with 40 percent on the temp gauge. my temp gage never past 40% and i've pinged because of a bad Knock sensor.

well as for me..it's pinging because of the fuel im running, im supposed to run atleast 93 octane...
i was driving today, and let me tell you....it is lagging like a bitch, it feels as if the timing is way off, im going to NOT touch the motor until i have enough money to tune it again..thanks for all your help H-T
