Default Rev Limiter

My car red lines at about 6200 or so and it just feels like it is still pulling pretty hard but then i have to shift.. is there anyway to over ride just the rev limiter?? and is it safe for the ls engine to rev over 6200??

ls limit shouldn't be 6200, it's more like 6800, but looks 7k, or over a small amount on the gauge.

it could be 6800.. the ls engine is in my civic so maybe my tach is off a bit but is there anyway to over ride the rev limiter?? like maybe let it redline around 7500 or 8000?

7500 to 8000 rpm do you want your pistons to uppercut your valves, the stock valve spring can't go that high

lol never heard that one before thats pretty good. No sense in going over 7k because the stock engine runs out of breath a little after 6500

My brothers LS redlines at 7200 I think. Not sure how high you can safely go.

I've hit about 7500 on my stock LS for just a sec after a nasty missed shift. Didn't cause any damage but I wouldn't do it regularly.

I saw 8 something on my LS after a HORRIBLY missed shift. Didn't hurt it at all. Changed the chip and put a 6800 cold and 7100 hot rev limiter on it. I have a straight back 2.5" exhaust with no cat so I probably make power until 7###rpms.

LS power problems at 7k+ rpm's have more to do with the valves not being open long enough/not enough lift to get air into the engine...I wouldn't think it's because of not being able to get it out due to exhaust restriction. Sure less restriction helps, but at that RPM you're suffocating the engine. You'd need turbo or a different cam profile to breathe that high in the rev range. Honda's answer = vtec.

Yeah the LS makes peak horsepower is like a grand or so before redline. I ussually take it all the way to redline when driving hard so I will be in the powerband when I shift.
