So in my car it won't let me downshift into first gear. I was cruising in third and was slowing down so I was downshifting to second and then trying to go into first put It wouldn't let me. Like it was blocked/lockedout. I had the clutch all the way down too. So I gave it a harder push and forced it into first gear, and then I heard gears grinding. And immediately shifted back into second gear. It was the first time I grinded the gears so will it do major damage to my car?

So after I learned my lesson of forcing it into first gear now I sometimes have trouble shifting it into first gear from a dead stop. I think I'm suffering the consequences of grinding the gears. I push my clutch all the way in, the shifting stick won't go all the way in first gear. Like it will only go half way in. But this only happens maybe once every 10-15 times I shift into first gear from a complete stop. What's going on guys? Its a 2000 gsr btw. Thanks

 

well.... when you first "downshifted" into first, were you at a complete stop or moving?

 

I was moving at maybe 5-10mph

 

Idk about Integras, but in the Jetta it will let me downshift at about 10mph. Maybe in the Integra you can't.

 

Try changing the trans oil it might help it a little.
