a problem with not getting to normal engine temp
Heres the problem. 94 integra RS with just a short ram intake. It seems like everywhere I drive, the engine has a hard time getting to normal engine temp. But the bigger problem is when I drive up and down big mountain passes. I live in CO and am constantly driving up I-70 which starts at 5000 feet or so and ends up at almost 11500 ft. When I am driving down the pass, my enigne temp drops so low that the heater in the car doesn't blow hot air and the oil temp gauge is sitting so low that it looks like I just started the car. Any suggestions? Maybe put the stock piping back on for winter and the short ram for summer? Am I using more fuel than I should be since the engine performs best at normal temps? Thanks
yea its super weird. My gf gets all pissed off when we go up the mountain because of all the noise from the intake. I personally like it. Then she gets even madder when the heater stops blowing hot air. So your running a cold air intake in colorado. Man, you have some big ***** doing that to a daily driver here.

Like a month after I did it, I gave this salesman a ride in one of those huge rainstorms where the highway floods, scared the bejesus out of me. I've never had any problems though. Athough I do have a friend who seized his motor on his Z24 Cavileir doing the same thing. Sucks for him!
it may be just that, coincidentely, your thermostat is stuck open.........my gsr has the same problem.........stays super cold on the highway, and only gets to normal temp when at idle.....your probably running cooler up the mountain cuz the air is thinner and colder at high elevations
Around town, i'm sitting at a fine temp, running the car hard up the pass, it's fine. It just does it when I go downhill and really don't press on the gas all that much. How are is it to replace a thermostat? Thanks

Mine did the same thing. My thermostat was stuck open. I replaced it and now it warms up really quick. I'm just guessing, but I would assume if you're running too cold it would affect your fuel mileage too.
