ok well im going to get a new car and the only problem the guy said is that it needs new throw out bearing ..he told me he'd buy the part and put it on his self but id have to pay him alittle more but i wanna do research if it'd be cheaper to buy the part myself and take it somewhere for them to do it..so any advice? and its a 97 LS swapped to a GSR
well he's selling it fixed and **** for about $3,500 and not fixed for about $3,200
and yeah thats very true i can do that but would it affect if i waited a bit till got a new clutch ? or have to get it right away i mean i would wait no longer then a 2months or less then that.

Well it damn sure wont be cheaper than $300 to get that done. If it was me, I'd just find another car with no probs. The fact that the throw out bearing is broken probably means it was beat on or the clutch is old. Like eg said the clutch is probably going to need changing. You have to drop the trans anyways so might as well. So add $200 for a quality clutch which comes with the bearing. You also need gaskets, flywheel resurfacing, trans fluid, etc during the job ~$70. I don't know if he included that.
For a DIYer, the job shouldn't take longer than a weekend. And that's taking your time

I got a clutch from this seller http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EXEDY...Q5fAccessories
and it was a good exedy oem replacement kit used it for over 90k miles no problems
it lists both kits on the exedy site http://www.exedyusa.com/oe/Applications
just wanted to show you how much decent oem replacement parts actually cost
your looking at $130.00 in parts including shipping, the 300 he is charging is labor the parts aren't that that expensive
hope this helps

most used cars this age have problems of some sort. the cars that don't and have been maintained and repaired usually aren't for sale, or when they do sell fetch top dollar
a few notes about previously mentioned comments
1. there are no gaskets involved when you do a clutch job, there are seals you can replace if need be on the axles and rear main. the rear main you don't do without the correct tool.
2. the exedy oem from gripforce is a great clutch for stockish power levels. for the $100-150 they go for it's a great way to go, i also suggest this and not just doing the TB
3. get a labor quote from your shop before you make a choice. if you can buy this clutch and pay dude $200-300 to do all the work, that's not bad, the shop may want more
4. where did the gsr swap come from? how was it wired and what ecu is it on?
5. do a compression test on that engine when it's hot, unhook the distributor and do the test. numbers below 170psi when warm would worry me. every time i've seen a 140psi cylinder in a gsr it fractured an exhaust valve shortly there after due to excess oil consumption.
