trouble starting
I had a similar problem. My car would take a long time to get started. The starter seemed to sound real weak. I thought it was a ground, or mabe the starter, cause the battery was only 2 years old. Anyways, I cleaned up the grounds and replaced the starter, but no luck. I finally go and get the battery load tested. It turns out the battery had some bad cells.
starters, particularly older ones will tend to stick when they get hot. The most obvious example i can give is with camaros/ firebirds. The starter on those cars always fail when aftermarket headers are installed. They headers are routed so close to the starter that they can make a new starter fail.
A common fix would be to wrap the starter in ehat wrap.
In your case, I suggest you check all connections to and from starter.(ignition switch, battery lead and ground)
Check the condition of the battery. It may register 12 volts, but remember the starter doesn't operate on volt, but amperage.
I would believe if all else checks out, replace the solenoid, have it rebuilt or buy a new/reman. A new starter shoud run you about 100-150.
Good luck
