outside door handle problem

outside door handle problem
so on my passenger door i was replacing the door handle lock, finally got everything back together. so the problem is the rod that was connected to the door handle and opens it from the outside is loose and the door wont open from the outside anymore. it is the rod that number 8 in the diagram goes into. how do i fix this its pretty annoying. thanks http://www.dealerdirectparts.com/v/v...os/4812430.gif (diagram)
